I think we should have a thread that gives us a place to state Trials and Triumphs. This is an excellent way for others to learn from others mistakes and not have to make them or learn from others successes and implement them for their own start-up. I guess that this whole forum is based on this idea, however, I think a specific thread on it would be good. I can see that this forum will begin being loaded with all types of posts. So the earlier we can set up some structure the better.

I will start with a story for the thread. I started my company Executek Search Corp. only three months ago. We are a search firm focused on helping start-ups and small businesses find, hire and retain Top performers for their teams. To be honest with everyone involved, I had absolutely no idea what it was going to take to make this work. I found, by accident, this startupnation site. For anyone who has not utilized the 10 steps to Open for Business I highly recommend it. I specifically recommend the "Life Plan" part. This was a huge life changing process for me. By utilizing the Sloan Brothers and their teams unmatchable information I have been able to realize a dream. My intitial investment in my start-up was approximately $500. After only 3 months I have made an unbelievable ROI. Revenues for the first 3 months have been over 100K!

If anyone has any questions for me or would like to discuss anything about a trial or triumph that they have lived through or are currently celebrating please post it here or you can email me personally. Like the Start Up nation team says,
"Start it Up!"

Well I think being in the right place at the right time did have a lot to do with it. However, there were some big things that have helped me. The "Life Plan" that is in the "10 Steps to Open for Business" was huge. I think you can download that form directly from the site. The only thing I added to the Life plan was where it talks about your skills or things your good at, I added a section that stated what I am not good at.

Another big thing for me was there was another form from this site called "Super Star List", where you were to name 12 people you would like to work with while starting your company, wether you knew those people or not. I not only decided on people I would like to work with but some companies that I would like to partner with. Since I did that I was able to attract a few companies that share the same target audience as me, but for different reasons, and we have prospered greatly from each other.

I will be being interviewed by Jeff and Rich this saturday evening on Start Up Nation. I am looking forward to it and I hope everyone tunes in. I will be talking about this very subject.
Best Wishes to everyone!

Ken - great story and I like your idea for a separate category for Trials and Triumphs. Sounds like you have found a niche - ride the wave!

Best wishes in all your future endeavors and I look forward to reading more recaps and T&Ts from you and others on the Forum.
