I would like to know the very best ways of getting traffic to your website. It would be helpful for as many people as possible to offer suggestions, and maybe by using a variety of different ones it might be helpful. I know that writing articles is a good one.

Are you an affiliate marketer?  It`s hard to tell from your site.  Secondly, what is the main thing you are trying to sell to people?  From what I can see it`s overloaded with stuff and there seems to be one of many things that your site is about.

"The very best ways of getting traffic to your website" - I think there are many many SUN posts on getting traffic to a web site.

The very best way? The best way for you may be different than another website. It depends upon your target market. Who are you trying to reach? Where do they hangout? Are they best reached through the internet, print advertising, TV ads, PR, word of mouth...etc?

One thing I can tell you for sure. You won`t make a dime with your current website. So driving traffic to it will be an exercise in futility. I`m sorry to have to be so blunt. But those "Plug-in Profit Sites" are nothing more than a nice gimmick and will only make money for one person, Stone Evans. That being said, there is no "best" way of getting traffic to your site. It`s a matter of discovering what works best for you.

Let me tell you a quick story:

Many internet marketing experts claim that blue is the best color to use for your website. The color blue is supposed to have a calming influence over visitors to your website -  mentally relaxing your visitors and making them more receptive to your offer. Certain shades of blue indicate dependability, making it a good color for business ads. Blue is also associated with authority and dependability, and is a popular color for uniforms, worn by police officers, mail carriers, security guards and other officials.

With that in mind, I used the color blue when I built my website. However, while doing additional research I also discovered some of the most successful internet marketing websites don`t use blue at all. Websites like Addme.com, Knowthis.com and Marketingterms.com.

The point is it`s not the color of your website that`s important. It`s about what works best for you and how effectively you position and present your website. The same holds true when it comes to generating traffic to your website.

I personally use article marketing to drive traffic to my website. That`s what works best for me. I also post on forums. That`s it. That`s all I do. Those two methods work extremely well for me. In fact, they work so well I haven`t had to buy advertising in nearly 18 months.

Some people swear by pay-per-click. Ezine advertising also works. As does networking and e-mail marketing. Some people use a combination of all of the above. It`s just a matter of experimenting with different marketing methods, until you find something that works for you.

Hi Aaron. Thank you for your post. Yes, I do have an affiliate site. I do have other sites as well. I publish children`s books and have a site for children. I also have a site for new self publishers, etc. I created the new site to to earn money from affiliates. I may just promote my book sites instead.

dbessera,

i understand that you have a few websites with different purposes.  here are just a few general points to consider:

1) know your audience

like Roland said, the "best" way varies on your website purpose and your intentions with it.  it is very important to know your constituency (your target audience) and then to research the avenues they frequent.  are your target audiences single moms? if so, have you looked into magazines or websites that cater to single moms? perhaps some forums and discussion boards online? understanding and knowing your audience is critical to your success.

2) experiment & track performance

like Dale mentioned, there are many ways to get exposure on the Internet and market your website.  what works best and doesn`t is different for everyone, so continue to experiment with various methods until you find a good fit.  don`t forget to track your initiatives.  you need to know how each effort is materializing (paying-off) for you so that you can stick to the winners and get rid of losers.

3) continue to educate yourself

internet marketing trends are continuously changing.  there are just so many factors and parties involved that make or break a certain approach (i.e. search engine behavior, email systems, your visitor profile, your website, your products, etc). it is important to stay informed of the different ways you can gain advantage over your competition.  if you don`t know what`s out there and available to you, it`s hard to decide what to do.

let`s take internet marketing for example, you can consider email marketing, ezine marketing, article marketing, affiliate and referral marketing, marketing via blogs, podcasts, posting on discussion boards and forums and a ton more.  learn the basics of each and give them a shot...then learn some more of ones that show some progress and continue to tweak your approach.  again, track your results so you know what works and what does not. i discuss a lot of these approaches on my recent website.

but before you get into search marketing, make sure your website is as optimized as it can be. nothing beats free, search engine traffic that comes from your organic progress.  it`s cheap, it`s free and it is the best.  move on to external marketing strategies only after you are comfortable with your website`s search optimization.

good luck and keep us all posted on how your initiatives work for you!  a lot of us can benefit from proven first hand methods.

My target market are people with horses.  I have a patented, TM mesh horse leg wrap, that keeps flies off horses.  The Fl Control business is a billion dollar business in the summer in the USA.
My FLY WRAPS is in great demand.  I have dozens of orders/day from horse ownes who have to `google` to find my site.  I need help in `linking` or creating `affiliate` partnerships ~ and I`m not sure how to go about it.
This is a seasonal product and FLY WRAPS comes into demand beginning now through September.
Help me increase exposure and sales asap.
