Hi, My question is regarding trademarking a clothing line.  If you were to use your birth first and last name for your "brand" name or even your child`s birth name, would you have to trademark that as well? I know the logo I would definitely have to trademark but I`ve read somewhere that you did not have to trademark your birth name if that`s what you were using. ?!?!?

You don`t have to "trademark" anything - it is just extra protection.

I think what you are thinking of is a DBA? If you are doing business under your name, like "John Smith, Consultant"you don`t need a DBA. If you are doing it under a name, like "Whirlwind Consulting" then you would need a DBA.

DBA is an abbreviation for “doing business as.”  This is a critical first step toward building name recognition for your business. It is a form that would be filed with the Secretary of State.  You might want to consider contacting an attorney.  Good luck.
