Hi TEXASHOMESTAGER,

Have you been exhibiting in 2008?  Any thoughts, now that you`ve exhibited? I`m right in the middle of preparing for my first.

I have always been an attendee at these shows for past companies I`ve worked for, now I find myself going into my first trade show in December as an exhibitor, and I`m committed to another one in January. I`m moving forward, despite all the doom and gloom on TV.

I`m selling higher quality t-shirt graphics-apparel to the motorcycle market (not the cheaper assortment that they are accustomed to)....my niche group, and really my experiment in business before I dive into larger, riskier, more expensive markets and shows. I`ve already read a lot of trade show advice books, but curious for SUN member experiences.

In 2008...it certainly is a different business climate just a year later. My stomach reminds of this as I get closer to my shows. Riders may not need another t-shirt? But, they may want one to remember the weekend at the show? Who knows?

Here`s what`s cookin...I will post my booth layout in my SUn profile for feedback. I have plans for a website targeted to wholesalers to go live next month. I will have a wholesalers price list and order form, a modest catalog of my t-shirt designs to show to buyers interested in larger quantities. And, I will have a small brouchure and business card to distribute direct to customers. Tight budget, but I will have these marketing tools.

I like the advice about being in front selling your product and reserving chairs for people who just want to sit...all the walking at these trade shows...I know how important chairs are for attendees!

I have some friends to help me set up...but, I plan to work the show myself (all three days)...I`m still up in the air about who to have there help me. It`s a 10` x 10` small booth...but I know I will need a little help from someone who knows what they are doing, to take full advantage of our selling position...any thoughts on this aspect of selling at trade shows?

I plan to get a credit card machine..to attract those still buying on credit....is this important, or should I just do CASH ONLY?

I am making the final preps in the next month...please share your thoughts and experiences, if you feel so inclined. I will check your re-cap now. I just realized you exhibited last year...looks like you did FANTASTICALLY WELL. Congratulations!

thanks and much appreciated everyone...

Hi Rodrigo,

A couple or points and/or ideas:

Invite attendees into your booth only after you qualify them as being a potential customer of yours. You don`t want people to just "loiter" in your booth sitting down and not conversing with you about your product.

Consider using an imprinted tote bag to give out to attendees. For one, they are useful and appreciated, but this also increases your presence at the show with people walking around with your company by their sides!

Good luck...

I will definitely consider tote bags for the NYC show. My budget is so tight right now. I do know how important it is to offer give-a-ways. It really depends on how well I do at the first show in Long Beach, CA. I will visit your website. Thanks for the tip of qualifying customers...I have to get out of creative mode and put on my selling hat.

Hi Rodrigo,
So sorry for the delay in responding, I have been absorbed in a current project.  I will prepare a proper answer to your questions a bit later this week when I have more time to give it sufficient thought.  Your product sounds cool!
Be back soon...
Nancy

Thanks Nancy! Whatever bit of advice you could offer would be great!

I`ve really started from scratch...taking what I know, and giving it a chance.

I will be starting a new TRADE SHOW thread in the SuN Marketing Forum for 2008-2009. Please watch out for it, and comment there...no rush.

If you are absorbed in project...a sign of TRUE success...I read through your trade show thread from last year, and learned a lot from it.
