Has anyone any experience or reputable contacts when it comes to manufacturing childrens toys?

I want to get some quotes for characters with an environmental slant to them and want to make sure that the plush toys, accessories etc are made from environmentally and kid friendly stuff (trying not to do a Matell on it!)

Also can any of you e-tailers provide some advice/insights on the best way to manage the fulfillment process?

You take the payment online.. what happens then? Will some manufacturers ship direct from their facility? I don`t want to have my own storge and shipping facility just yet.

Is anyone aware of any good tutorials on getting started with e-commerce.

I am not aware of such kind of company, but you can look for it on the internet there may be some help will be provided.

Firstly, you may want to get an account at a B2B Trading website called Alibaba.com, here with a free account you can search through the many companies that produce and sell products such as these. 

To make it easier for you look for companies that are able to drop-ship the items they sell this way the customer would order from your site at your price then you would send the payment and customer shipping info to the distributor minus your margin and they would then ship it to your customer.

For tutorials about this you could just Google drop-shipping and this should be enough to learn about it as its not very hard and most of the work is automated or done by the distributor.

Now when it comes to e-commerce you will need a bank account as well as a merchant account for accepting payments online. Paypal is a good company to get a merchant account as they're well known and their platform is very fast and secure.
