Chinese New Year is this coming Sunday. I thought perhaps all of us can take a little break and visit this website

http://www.sanfranciscochinatown.com/culture/zodiac.html

to find out what is your zodiac animal sign.

I`ll start:

I am a Pig, oink oink

Characteristics: Pigs are intelligent, chivalrous, genourous, and gallant with impeccable manners and taste. They have tremendous fortitude, enjoy learning, and have great honesty. Whatever they do, they do with all their effort. They enjoy helping others. Pigs like to indulge, which gives a preception of laziness. They are quick tempered, yet they hate arguments and quarreling. No matter how bad the situation, they try to work itout.

Bold - ha ha, that is so me!! I, however, don`t eat like a pig, I eat like a horse!

pad Horse
pad
pad
Characteristics: Horses are energetic, skillful with money, yearn for freedom, fond of traveling, romantic and seductive. They are popular and prefer entertainment and large crowds. They are wise, talented, good with their hands. Horses are cheerful and perceptive, although they sometimes talk too much. They are independent, rarely listen to advice, and impatient.

Compatible Signs: Tiger, Dog, and Goat

I strive to be cheerful, do talk too much and get in trouble sometimes. Love large crowds at concerts. Like to save money. I consider that wisdom is about perception and understanding. Value my independence highly. Advice taken depends on my own truth. Quite impatient for results or I tend to change quickly. Like to travel and must be free. Talented = very creative. But romantic, seductive, and good with my hands? That`s funny. Happy Valentines.

But....

I`m a dragon: 1952
Characteristics: Dragons are healthy, energetic, excitable, powerful, lucky, short-tempered, and stubborn. They are also honest, sensitive, brave, and they inspire confidence and trust. Dragons seek power and refuse to take defeat. They like leadership, taking the initiative and keeping people motivated

Compatible Signs: Monkey, Rat, Tiger, and Rooster

WHAT!! Stubborn? I`ll guaran-damn-tee I`m not stubborn! And anyone who thinks they can change my mind about that, well....we`ll just see!

OH my God, CraigL, I should have named this Totally Tea Time Chat.

What was I thinking?!!

Collin is a dragon as well. I was a `nobody` in my family until I gave birth to a grandson who happens to be a dragon - that`s like double bonus right there!

OKay, so far we have 2 horse, 2 dragons and a pig.  Any more?

So far: 1 monkey, 2 dragons, 2 horses, and a pig.

Anyone from SuN HQ?

I don`t mean to turn this into some kind of culture class but I thought you might be interested to know that Chinese New Year lasts 15 days and here is what we do for each day:

  • Day One (Chinese New Year`s Day): A family affair, when the gods of heaven and earth are welcomed into the house.
  • Day Two: Traditionally a day of prayer to the gods and ancestors.
  • Days Three and Four: Sons-in-law visit their parents-in-law to pay their respect.
  • Day Five: Families stay home to welcome the God of Wealth into the home. Visiting another person`s home on this day is considered very unlucky for both the visitor and the host.
  • Days Six to Ten: A time to visit friends and family and present gifts of hong bao to younger children.
  • Day Seven: "Everybody`s Birthday." According to Chinese tradition, everyone is one year older on the seventh day of the New Year, no matter where his or her birthday falls in the calendar.
  • Day Nine: A day of respect for the Jade Emperor, the ruler of Heaven.
  • Days Ten to Twelve: A time to host dinners for family and friends.
  • Day Thirteen: A day of recovery from the rich food eaten during the previous days. On this day simple foods such as rice congee are eaten.
  • Day Fourteen: Preparations are made for the Lantern Festival and dragon dance.
  • Day Fifteen: The Lantern Festival, and the culmination of Chinese New Year festivities.

Or Option B:  Spend the entire 15 days at a casino and hoping God of Wealth will visit you there.

Meitzi-I am a tea drinking rooster.  However, I must also add to your calendar above.  It is seriously missing the part of: go play bacarrat at the casino for 2 weeks.  It truly is part of the culture.  It must be written there somewhere because I am working 12 hour shifts, which happens EVERY Chinese New Year. Oh, for those of you who are not aware, Chinese New Year`s Eve is this coming weekend!

Jillybeans - You are absolutely right!!

For some Chinese living in the states, they gamble their way through the New Year; for some Chinese living back in Asia, they would Mah Jong their way through the New Year as how my grandparents used to do.

I have added your point to the previous message
