When you click on a topic and check out a discussion on this site, how many pages deep do you go? Do you find that you check out the first couple of pages but then stop after that, or does it all depend on the quality of the content that you`re reading?

The reason that I ask is that I`ve made comments within a thread that appear on pages 4, 5, etc. and I`m just wondering if new comers to the conversation ever really get to see them.

I wonder if there are any stats on this?

When y`figure that so many people today only seem to be interested in 250-character content, I wonder if there`s any way to really know....

If there were a way to measure it, I`m willing to bet that people read through the first page and that`s about it. Our attention spans are growing smaller and smaller, plus some studies (can`t think of where I saw them at the moment) have shown that people `scan` the Internet and don`t actually `read` it.

So in all reality they might view the entire page, but actually only pick up bits and pieces.

The good news is that SuN is so heavily indexed by Google that many times a page will show up in search results based on language within a particular post to that page.

Hi Duke,
I just checked you`re thread in marketing that is now eight pages.  It is clear to me the number of Sun Newsletter readers can make a difference.  Also as far as how many pages are read, seems to depend if you are interested and already following a thread.  There are also two different ways you can read threads on Sun, one by checking community forum for all posts that are new or to click on forums and read posts that are new to what you have been following.

If the topic asks my opinion, I don`t always read every post before replying. If a thread is asking for help, I do. Nothing is worse than chiming in with a solution on page 8 when the problem was solved on page 5 and had devolved into casual chatter. I`m very careful against looking like an idiot. I try to read every post on threads that catch my interest, regardless. Sometimes another person will phrase my opinion in a way that`s better than I would have. In general, it`s better to read everything. It`s so easy to look foolish posting out of context for the direction the thread has taken. Fitting in is important to me, or rather, not drawing attention to myself, so I do as the Romans do, whenever I`m in Rome.
