For me number 6 is key.  We need to not be afraid to talk with others in our business as well as other businesses.  Surrounding yourself with those who are also passionate about what they do not only adds to you enthuasium, but they can serve as great mentors, if you only ask.  Don't be afraid to ask, "What has made your business a success".  It's a complement to them and how can they refuse to answer?

Thanks for a great reminder list, I plan to print it and post it on my office bullentin board!

Top 20 Staart up tips are great. But would like to know on #14 what is a SWOT analysis of my competitors? Thank

Yogolf

Hi Yogolf,

A SWOT analysis is Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.  Strengths and Weaknesses are internal while Opportunities and Threats are external.

Wikipedia has a nice explanation as well.

This is a great list.  I especially agree with #18.  When doing business, there is a tendency to focus all your time and effort on it and "forget" to spend time for yourself and your family.  This should not happen.

Cool list ... I`d add "listen even when it hurts" and to your #17 (which not all to-dos can be done in a day; even breaking them into chunks will require rewriting some) "stop at a good starting point".

I definitely agree when you said "Stop at a good starting point", its great to have a to do list but yes it would be much easier and realistic if we can divide our to do list per day (of course if you can finish everything in a day that is much better).  Although we should have the sense of urgency, let us not forget to breathe and enjoy life.
