We are in the process of selling our house and there was a knock on the door yesterday, I hope you find this as funny as I did.
Our neighbor that lives beind us is at the door, he proceeds to tell me that he is getting evicted and wanted to know if we might be interested in going ahead with our move and renting to him.  His appeal to me as a possible landlord follows,
"You know JR don`t you?  Well we have been friends for 19 years and he is all of a sudden deciding to evict me, can you believe it?  I know I am behind in rent but still....(story goes on and on).  Now I know I am a good renter because I don`t party, I don`t have tons of friends over, I just smoke pot all the time.  So if you want me to rent I will be happy to and I will certainly be ok with buyers looking at the house."

So...should I rent to him?
What a good laugh I had.

You should only rent to him if he promises a) to grow his own pot, and b) provide you with a percentage of the crop yields. It would be a combination leasing and sharecropping deal.

Be sure to have a contract, drawn up by any officer of the court, and have it witnessed down at city hall, perhaps with a couple of police officers handy. They`re pretty reliable.

This is quite amusing. As if they'd expect you to be willing to rent when they can't even maintain the one they have currently. Thanks for the good chuckle, hope you didn't rent to him Laughing

One problem with renting to drug users is the chemicals given off by the drugs.  Most potheads eventual escalate to other types of drugs.  The chemicals given off by these drugs can infiltrate into the walls of a house.  You may then have to replace the wallboard before renting out the house again.

And, the reason he is behind in his rent may be tied to his drug dependency.

Haha.  I definitely wouldn't.  First, he's behind on the other, so what's to say he won't on yours, and, well, the drug problem is kind of an obvious reason against it...like nevadascul said, it can really cause problems.
