I have an excruciating decision to make. I have the opportunity to buyout my main competitor at a fire sale price and double the size and profitability of my business overnight. Unfortunately, it would involve moving the business to a new state effectively eliminating the jobs of two incredible employees who have made great sacrifices for the business over the years. I've invested a lot of time and money into building this business and have probably not made much more than minimum wage. This would be an opportunity to finally cash in on my investment. I just can't bear the thought of laying these guys off. It's like I'm betraying them for personal gain. But I also have to consider my family and all the sacrifice we have made over the years. Any advice is appreciated.

It seems like you already know what to do but it saddens you to think that you have to give up these guys. In the first place, you probably put up a business for your family and when you started it, you are aiming at making it profitable. You clearly see a better opportunity and I am certain that deep inside, you do not want to let go of this rare chance. I believe this is one of the challenges tied with building an enterprise and making it grow. Face it optimistically. You and these guys all have to grow. With determination, all of you can make it even if you are no longer together. This is just my point of view. Only you can truly make a judgment on this matter. Good luck.
