Hi,

I am sure many of you know of these three tools but for those who don`t they are a must if you are marketing your own internet business.  They all come from a guy named Aaron Wall, the owner of SEOBOOK.com.

http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/

Keyword Research Tool: If you don`t want to pay money for a fancy research program just use SEOBOOK.com to determine what people are searching for.

SEO For FireFox: This is a great tool for determining when Google last indexed your web pages, easily find NO Follow Links, and many other helpful tools.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/rank-checker/

Rank Checker: This is the free tool that you never thought existed.  If you want to know where your website ranks in Google, Yahoo, and MSN for multiple keywords this is the tool to use. You can type in 100`s of keywords, save the search, and check the rankings as many times as you want a day; it is fairly accurate too.

Great suggestions, and I would add WebsiteGrader.com to that list.  And Aaron`s book is a must have.

Thanks!

If you`re serious about marketing your own business online - the best "tool" is a reputable, experienced and collaborative Internet Marketing professional or agency, with great writing skills, experience in social media culture, and technical competence.

All of these tools provide just a "view" of individual or slightly aggregated evidence relating to Internet reach, popularity and traffic - translating and combining this evidence into action that supports your strategic marketing plan and ROI goals is the domain of the Internet Marketing professional (or volunteer, in forums like this!).

I use a browser called Flock (built on same base as Firefox). I have loaded the SEO extension for Firefox (this past summer)  and works fine, but the rank checker does not seem to work.

Also check out the Google Website Optimizer. It allows you to check out variations on webpages to determine effectiveness in achieving conversion goals.

I think Google is actually better than the SEO Book tool for initial research.  The problem is the SEO book seems to miss some of the outlier web traffic.

The main advantage of the SEO Book tool over Google is two fold:
1) The ability to print to Excel with traffic numbers
2) The ability to see Wordtracker + Keyword Discovery data.  However, most folks that are just learning SEO just work with the Google rankings--so this extra data is not only useless, but may cause misdirection.

Yesterday I wrote this post, which I really tried to make a comprehensive resource:
55 SEO Tips and Techniques for Marketers, Bloggers and Small Business Owners Its specific to Wordpress, but covers the fundamentals of SEO for all web platforms.  It covers SEO plug ins, avoiding black hat technique, increasing usability, and many other SEO related topics.  All in one comprehensive, easy to read post.  Feel free to read it and share it with your friends.

If you have other tips or tricks, feel free to leave them in the comments.  If you have questions, feel free to leave those in the comments as well.

Thanks for reading!

I have a question for all of you; I keep hearing about wordpress plug in, but I can`t find where to place them. I believe the particular theme I have already has many of the componants in the plug ins included. Maybe you can check out my blog and tell me if this is true, and if not, how and where to I place these plug ins?

You may be hearing about these plug-ins for the downloadable version of WordPress that you`d install on your own Web site, and administer yourself. I`m not sure if that`s the case, but there are are two different versions of WordPress. The freebie for online blogging is managed through the .COM Web site.

The downloadable version is found through the .ORG site:
  http://wordpress.org/

That version is more configurable by the end-user, if I have my info straight.
