A business is an entity exchanging a product for money. It may or may not have employees. To say that the unique, defining attribute of a business is whether or not it has employees is to use a non-essential for the definition.

I get the idea that a self-employed person who has no particular desire to grow to a large organization is different from employer-employee situations. But that`s not the difference between a real business and a pretend business.

There is an expression we could use, and call something a "boutique" business. In that case, the entire business and product line(s) are totally dependent on 1 person.

Another option is to maybe call it an "enterprise" when there`s an emloyer and several/many employees?

Business is a dynamic. It`s a word that describes transactions. The form of the business or the overall strategic plan is something else.

I was recently approached by a website developer that claimed to be able to improve my sales by 25%. I said that is great but I don`t think I want a "Professionally designed site" (all you great designers please bear with me).
I know it is soon I need to improve my site, I just don`t want all the "shiny crap" I don`t want introduction movies, or flash pop-ups, don`t want neon banners flashing, and most important I don`t want to lose my generic phrase search results (which I admit were an accident).
I am about to retain a long distance member of SUN to hopefully understand my don`t wants and make the improvements I need.
what are reasons I should send it to a "site house" rather than a practical guy that wouldn`t degrade the searches?
thanks in advance

I have heard of some places that are kind of templates but run by people who know what they are doing.  My understanding is they are professionally done, but somehow give you access to your site to make adjustments as needed.  A lot of the other ones that I had seen had some crazy charges if you wanted to change stuff. I`ll look and see if I can find a link to one.  Good luck.

My first thought is - whom ever you retain should absolutely be responsive to your needs and wants for your web site.  During any preliminary meetings/discussions with potential web developers you should layout your expectations and goals for your web site.

Certainly not every web site needs all the "bells and whistles" available, but a good web site designer will recommend features or functions that will help you run your business, make your site more user friendly, and work toward getting quality traffic and conversions.
