I am heading up to Maine later this year with  my family (my wife and I and our 3 kids). Any suggestions or tips on activities to do up there?

Thanks!

I just got back from Maine a couple of weeks ago.  I had never been there, but some friends live nearby and advised me on a couple of places to go, one of those places being Bar Harbor.  It was a really cool little town; beautiful.  It sits right on the edge of Acadia National Park, which is incredible.  I`d highly recommend checking that area out.

We also drove up the southern coast from Boston, through The Yorks and Kennebunkport.  Really cool drive along the coast; lots of scenery and big homes.

Portland, ME was kind of a bust.  We stayed there overnight and there wasn`t a whole lot to do other than walk around downtown.

I ate a bunch of lobster and blueberry pie.  I made it my mission to sample blueberry pie from just about every place that offered it.  I nearly brought one home w/ me.

Good luck and have a great time.

There are some great outlets in Kittery, just off the interstate. Might be a nice stop on the way back.

Thanks for the tips.  Lobster and blueberry pie is absolutely on the menu for me.  Meanwhile my wife will be in Kittery at the outlets.

York is a great town to visit as a family.  You`ll find quaint little town after quaint little town along route 1.  But you will also find a lot of crowds and touristy things.  That`s not such a bad thing but if you want to get away for a day or so, head inland to some other great places.  Red`s Eats is a famous lobster roll stand in Wiscasset, another sweet little town.  The more inland and north you go, the more likely you are to see a moose.

My wife and I drove up from Boston to Bar Harbor 2 years ago.  Bar Harbor is great.  The kids would love a lobster boat tour.  We did LuLu`s lobster boat.  One of my favorite activities was a 4 masted sunset sailboat cruise.  Bring your own wine.  Great views.  Acadia is a good 1/2 day trip.  We stayed one night in Camden on the way to Bar Harbor.  It was our favorite town outside of BH.  One night was enough though.
