Hello everyone

This is my first post. My major skills are in technical writing (IT & Banking), Unix, Systems Analysis and translation. I have spent months after months searching for business ideas or freelancing opportunities on the net but found mostly "MLM opportunities" or empty promises to get rich quickly.

Can anybody help me in my quest to find the right business ideas given the skills I have mentioned?

Thank you
ChrisFarley

I think what i have learned after months of research is starting a sucessful business is a lot more than an idea.  A lot of times the successful businesses are started by somebody who is in a particular field and they know there is a need for something. Then there business is started while they are still working until it takes off, then they can quit their orginal job. I have also learned that "getting rich quick" is just what everybody wants but, the reality is it takes years and you may never "get rich". I have also found that a lot of businesses have contacts in the business they are in, way before they started their company. My business for example is lawn care, and we have contacts with a fellow lawn care company and also an owner of a lawn equipment company and a large landscape and grass cutting company. These all help a ton and we are not rich by any means but, we are able to keep our costs down because of who we know.

A technical writer often is a teacher. Have you looked into something like tutoring? There`s a growing market for people who do house calls, and with computer skills being such an important part of modern life, that might be an area.

Thank you for your valuable inputs.

I have not looked into tutoring yet. But it might be an area to consider.

I`m thinking the tutoring likely would be easier to start than a local computer repair store, where you`d have inventory, labor, and brick-and-mortar expenses.
