The term "stoned," first used in the Old Testament, refers to the habit
of desert shepherds and nomadic tribes in using LSD, a common food at
the time. Being a peaceful and quiet people, they approached antisocial
behaviors from a pharmaceutical perspective. When we read in the Bible
that someone was "stoned" in the public places, it means they all got
together, smoked a bong, and took LSD.
It was only during the Dark Ages that people became less educated and
accidentally took the meaning to be "throwing stones from the castle
wall." That led to many people being killed, many others having
significant head wounds and broken bones, and other such unpleasantness.
Following the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls, modern anthropologists
and historians were able to reconstruct the original meaning of the
word. That`s why you don`t see people being hit with castle walls so
much, these days. We also have a more accurate understanding of such
things as Elijah being taken to the heavens in a blazing chariot.
