Hello members!!  My name is Phil, and I have been in the car business for 20yrs, primarily buying & selling  problem cars ( body damage & severe mechanical issues) and fixing them up.  Now, I am in the process of starting my own management company like AAA.  We can fix any car anywhere in the nation for 1/2 price as long as we contract out the job.  The company name is  A.R.E.A. LLC  for Auto Repair e-mergency assistance. Our Motto is "When you NEED it repaired....for half price"

what does everyone think.  I need honest opinions  Thank you all.

Hi Car Guy :-D
My first question is half-price in relation to what or who? In other words, is it AAA and its pricing that you`re cutting in half, or the local mechanic shop?

The second question is the caveat: "...as long as we contract out the job." What does that mean?

Hello Craig,

thank you for taking the time to respond to my posting.  As it goes now, people call me up after being referred to me to see what I can do to help them with a repair problem that would normally cost them an arm and a leg.  For example, I just replaced a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee transmission for $1400.  The customer was told $4500 by the Jeep franchise dealership, and $2800 from a local repair shop; she could not afford either price. She was thrilled with my price. My real cost was $900 to do the job.
Another example was fixing a 2000 BMW 740il rear bushings and front suspension had to be replaced; BMW franchise dealership told them $4800; Midas wanted $3000.  My company contracted a garage to do it for $700; my real cost was $500.

So the direct answer to half price in relation to what or who in my companies case would be any repair shops estimate.  I routinely take estimates from different shops, and I get the job done for half price (and that was me making money providing the parts).

My soon to be website will have case studies like the above BMW & Jeep to help clarify what it is we do.

By the way, the AAA price guide for automobile repair pricing is just a reflection of my two examples above. It is based on what franchise dealers and major repair shops like Midas are charging people.

In both examples above, my company contracted out the jobs to 2 different garages.  I negotiated the labor rate and provided the parts.

So, I am trying to start a business that allows my managment company to handle people`s repair problems and save them big money on repairs, both mechanical and body damage.

I appreciate any further ideas on how to develop my business.

Thank you.

Good Grief! If you can do that for real, I can`t imagine how you wouldn`t go on to make millions! Unless it turns out that you`re not making a profit on the repairs.
:-D Make sure your Web site looks very professional, because that`ll be important.

Hi Car Guy -

Wow - what a compelling business proposition. I really like it - sounds like there may need to be some expectations set on "how good is the repair"? For example a transmission fix may be a "used" unit vs. a rebuilt unit. Probably is fine but there is some risk. Is that a reasonable profile on some of this slant? Perhaps the other is a different way to solve the same problem using a more cost-effective approach? Here is my real-life example... Just bought my teenage son a Saab 9-5 w/ 70,000 miles on it. Only issue was a HVAC problem. Typical dealer quotes to fix it range from $1500-3000. We bought a kit off the Internet to fix this specific issue. We did it for $180. Installed by a service provider it would have been $300-350. Huge savings. Is that the type of thing you are talking about as well.

I am very intrigued!

What is your audience? At what touch point or event would you typically engage with them?

Greg

It's not impossible to do but a but hard to make it real, don't you think. But hey, I'm not discouraging you or anything, it does seem a good business proposal, just a bit complicated for me that's all. Best of luck.
