I guess the 5 tactics for marketing are social bookmarking, target your market, blog commenting, you can also use facebook and twitter and also directory or article submission. You can also used this viral video production , especially when you want to post your products on youtube.

Since all the others are mentioned several times, I'll just give you my number one... drumroll please -- It's Facebook Marketing, but definitely there's a right way and a wrong way to proceed and just like Google AdWords, the wrong way will cost you dearly.

Every single one of the things mentioned on this board are good.  However, at the end of the day the only way to determine the "top 5 marketing tactics" really depends on who you are trying to reach and what message you are trying to put out there.

Don't waste your money with the shotgun approach to marketing as so many do.  Take some time and understand what the message is you want to get out, who you are trying to message to and then you can get a good understanding of the right way to message to that market.

Many posts have hit on the fact that a proper strategy is highly subjective and can depend entirely on your industry, product or service. Here are some that generally work all the time:

PPC

Search Engine Optimization

Blogging

Social Bookmarking

Article Marketing

*bonus* YouTube Marketing

It depends on your business industry. However, I would agree that blogging is a great tool. LinkedIn is also very good if you are a B2B organization, and do not forget about Twitter and Facebook.

I agree with SEO on the list. For me that's on my top of the list. Most of the companies are into SEO nowadays.
