I remember a long time ago hearing a story about a 14yr old who developed a golf tee that would dissolve when it rained, instead of leaving little splintery bits all over the green. Part of the story revealed that his neighbor was some sort of chemist who helped him figure out the composition, and basically made it for him. I remember thinking, "Well, yeah, duh - that`s called luck. How many people have a chemist next door?"
That was, lord, maybe 15 years ago. Where I live now, my neighbor is a chemist.
I have an idea for a game. I don`t know the first thing about marketing games. I don`t even really have that many close friends that I could bother to play the game for me.
I do, however, have a long distance friend who happens to belong to a national gaming league and several other local game playing groups. Not only did she tell me (scold me, as a matter of fact, for not realizing it) that of course she`d get her crew to playtest the game, but that in the past she`s been approached by people with money to invest looking for games to take to market. (Now it`s up to me to make a legit game out of the idea and get her some materials, instead of just brainstorming it into the ground).
My point? Don`t ever let "I don`t know anybody in this field..." stop you as an excuse. You might trip over just such a person at the next neighborhood barbecue.
