Hello everyone,

I am back here after a long time. Been away introspecting, thinking and worrying like hell. Then decided it won`t work so I am the DO IT NOW mode.

I just launched my new website www.rebelpreneur.com which is not designed yet so might not be available for to you to comment on. However, I was just wondering if you could critique my blog www.rebelpreneur.com/rebelblog

Do let me know what you think. :-)

Rebel grins

I don`t get the rebel thing.
In fact, I now feel a little old. Which is ... interesting ... considering my age.

Explain?

Also, what is the focus of your blog? I read a few posts but didn`t get enough of a gist to make a yes/no decision. And the yes/no decision is an important one when you are looking for subscribers.

May be I should explain it like this :

Entrepreneurs defy gravity. Rebels defy gravity. Rebels oppose and stand by their decisions, so do entrepreneurs.

Hence I needed to put in a code name for these insane but successful bunch of people who push the economy up, little by little.

I had to rely on an impulse decision to get a name- just as Google was conceived :-) So the Rebel was born.

Yes, I do need help on the focus part. I wanted to focus on starting, running, operating, financing a business in India specifically but the underlying theories could hold their juice for any business whatsoever. So the whole blog runs on how to do that !

What do I do?

You put an about page or a short few lines of text in the sidebar explaining just that.

And every time you post, you look at those lines, and ask "does this subject fit into that definition?" If yes, post. If not, don`t.

Hey

I did a little bit of a check on the blog and did find some posts that were irrelevant. Did what I should have long done - delete.

So is the focus focused enough? I mean, is the purpose of the site narrow enough? something like entrepreneur.com or inc.com but specifically for India.

I think that you should put an actual description in the sidebar or header.

I mean, my blog says "Small Business Essentials: News, Tips & Advice from the NHG Network". That, I think, is pretty clear in terms of what you can expect from the site - news, tips, and advice for small businesses.

Your header says "Bring out the rebel in you." That holds no meaning for me ... it confuses the reader. (The word rebel makes me think of the Canon Rebel camera, or Billy Idol`s "Rebel Yell", or "Rebel Yell" Kentucky whiskey. You might not think these things ... but maybe you aren`t an american child of the 80s.) I just don`t associate "rebel" with "entrepreneur" ... so you make this association by putting a blip in the top of the sidebar that says "This site is for ..." and spell it out.

"Rebelpreneur focuses on starting, running, operating, financing a business in India, usually using best practices that can be applied anywhere. We invite your comments and questions blah blah. To contact me, blah blah."

I would also say that the one thing you are seriously lacking in terms of blog building is chicklets and subscriptions. You need to connect your blog to feedburner and allow people to subscribe to it.

And this is why.

You mind If I copied That last bit. That was nicely written !

How do I make any changes to the header? I will put the blurb on the side bar right away. That should help until we figure out how to tinker with the header. I wil lfaint if I have to learn this wordpress thingy.

It would go in nicely in the sidebar - it`s a little too long for the header..

Steal away! I was writing it for you.

If you need to figure out how to change the header in WordPress, let me know and I can log into one of mine and give you step by step. Off the top of my head, I think it`s the last tab.

You did manage to turn on URL rewrites though. That`s good. I think the header stuff is in the same section as that.

One of the best questions I learned to ask myself, particularly when writing song lyrics, but it applies across the board: "What am I actually trying to say?"

I`ve never been able to answer it myself, :-D but I figured I`d put it up here for your consideration. It helps when editing, and analyzing for relevancy.
