aztecsky49: Glad to know there are others interested in something like this. As you can probably see, the idea actually started back in May of 2007. The basic concept was to coordinate an event that would feature exhibitors offering opportunities for Military Veterans to become business owners of their own via various means. Additionally, there would be a few workshops and seminars available, as well. Finally, a few competitions. I was able to get SCORE and the SBA interested and they also offered to support the event as much as they could. I also have a few potential speakers lined up waiting... so people are interested and as I can see from this forum thread so are the Military Veterans, BUT...

It all comes down to money and that`s where I`m at a stand still.  That and time. Granted, I have recently left the Marine Corps(after almost 12yrs), but until one of my "GREAT IDEAS" come to life, I have to stick to the "traditional" corporate job I have. : ) No offense to my corporate employer. Great company... but I do have other goals.

I`ve also had individuals offer to help and I appreciate that, but like I said... it`s the money. I need money to cover the cost of overhead such as the venue, marketing, etc. I do have a few businesses that are willing to sponsor some finances, but only if I can confirm that I will have a fair amount of Exhibitors and Attendees.  It`s a catch 22.

I`m currently working on setting up a site to begin generating some buzz about the event, so stick around(choose to be notified of replies to this thread) and do the following:

1. Keep following this thread so you`re notified when I launch the site. I`ll post on this thread the link.
2. Be sure to tell others that are interested, attendees and potential exhibitors alike.
3. Be sure to join the Mailing List as soon as it is available once the site is launched. If I can get people to sign-up on the mailing list and fill out a quick questionnaire, I can get a better idea of how big(or small) this event could be.

More to come...

Laude

You could get a two`fer! Military attendees would get a chance to get help and ideas about starting their own business AND the business owners could meet prospective employees/partners to help their business.

I`m always surprised at how I can help or be helped by people I meet at these kinds of events.

I like what you are doing. (notice I didn`t say trying) I am a service connected disabled veteran and I want to help veterans any way I can. I have written a book that explains how I have build 10 different businesses without using any of my own money. The information I share in my book you won`t find with an attorney, accountants or professors or SBA or SCORE. I show you how the unreasonable way. Using other people`s money. go to my website and check it out.
www.secrets-of-owning-a-business.com  I can make my e-book free to veterans.

I do not think I have replied to this before but I think it is a great idea that needs to be tried.  I am a Navy vet and a small business attorney.  I suggest that you research in the International Franchise Association`s web site.  They have a program, VETFRAN, designed to make it easier for vets to buy a franchise.  They may be a source of some funding to at least put franchising on as part of what you are trying to do.  I am surprised to read some of the things people have said about TAP.  I have said the same things but assumed my experience was a little different as I was medically retired from the Reserves, not active duty.
