Yes you can teach someone how to analyze a business that`s not going to work. This is in fact a highly valuable skill ... and it`s also why people avoid strategic planning ... it`s scary to confront the possible pitfalls and traps. A realistic, high-resolution image of a market can be very, very frightening. However you cannot teach this to an unreceptive audience ... you know the old saw about the horse and the water.
