Hello Everyone,

On my road trip to Chicago for the PLMA (Private Labeling Manufacturers Association) Convention, I took the opportunity to listen to a new cd, several times.  Great information.

If you haven`t read it, I would make it a point to get the book  or cd/tape and start in it ASAP.  I came away with something new everytime.

The 7 Habits are as follows,

  1. Be Proactive
  2. Begin with the end in mind.
  3. Put first things first.
  4. Think win - win (or no deal)
  5. To understand and then be understood.
  6. Creative Cooperation
  7. Self Renewel

Right at the begining Stephen said that it is very important to

  1. Learn it
  2. Teach it
  3. Do it

within 24 - 48 hours because it will change our paradyne. I got the wording from a tape and not straight from a book so i hope that the words i`m using were the same as he had in his book.

I`m sure others who have read it and may have come away with a different perspective but if at all possible I could get others to explain what they walked away with from the information it would make me very happy .

I make this effort now because I feel it is this important.

BTW I still think "Success throught a positive mental Attitude" by Dr Norman V. Peale  and "Think and grow Rich"  by Nepoleon Hill are also must read books.

I`ve read the book and heard the CD`s and they are nearly exact in wording.  I had a couple takeaways:

1. You really have to strike a balance in your life or it is only a matter of time before you will burn out.  If you manage to get balance in your life not only will you be happier but you will probably be more productive too.  Make time for the "life" things that should be done. (P and PC)

2. The idea that you negotiate until both parties win is a new one to me.  It sounds pretty basic but to go into meetings with the idea that you are in some way going to make THEIR company / product better was interesting. (Win-Win / Understand first then be understood)

Just my 2 cents.

What is the name of the book you are refering to? I have heard of the other 2 you have mentioned at the end of your posting.

This falls into the "negotiation" thread, relating to how to become a better negotiator. It`s an interesting problem for a philosopher because to negotiate almost always means to compromise. So the problem becomes at what point, and on which aspects are you willing to compromise.

I`ve heard of the book, skimmed it at one point some years ago, but didn`t pay all that much attention. So let me ask this; how specifically will this book change the way you live in the next 3 months? What particular change will you make in your life, actions, thoughts, or related "self," based on this book?

(I`m not downing the book, I`m asking on the basis of really wanting to know the answer.)

Be Proactive?  means to brainstorm without shyness.

End in mind? An exit strategy based on win/win $ in the bank.

First things first? First the overall concept, then the components.

Win/Win or No Deal? Everybody wins from great planning.

Understanding? Listen. Question. Formulation of SuccessStrategy through common interests.

Creative Cooperation? Learn and Conquer. Think people first projects.

Self Renewal? Hey, you gots yours and I`s gots mine ways to regenerate for optimum involvement. Go shoot me a dove and pray the rising sun. Or read the book `The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People` while planting a garden.

I`m just making the point of proactive participation in what matters to you most.

I have read some really nice books,  this was one of them (ok tapes),

I just wanted to let everybody know that   if you dont read this book you will miss out on something in your life and all of the people that you have an effect on.

hmm the butterfly effect.

"Begin with the end in mind" is the most difficult thing to do.  It requires predicting the future or have a goal.  How does the book elaborate on this?

Another great read!  Filing this in my catalogue for the next Book Club! http://www.startupnation.com/pages/community/forum_posts.asp ?TID=2734&PN=9

Searching for a free version online.

I try to read with an open mind, with no preconceived notions, especially the notion that this will change my life.  Only I can change my life.  What I read, learn, absorb..etc. simply adds to who I am.
