I don`t know about you, MotionGuy, but a big problem for me is how to get in touch with a manufacturer who would be interested in licensing your invention idea.
Most seem reluctant to even talk to independent inventors.

I shared the same dilemna - but decided to put together a very short letter introducing myself to 300 pharma companies that I located from a list of the top 500 companies on the internet - my letter basically told them that I have a patent application pending for a medical device that was endorsed by physicians (and enclosed a copy) and I got alot of positive responses.  They sent me their NDA and some asked me to give them my NDA.  I currently have 5 really promising potential licensees.  Even the prototyping company is interested in licensing this invention.  I hope this helped you - Good luck and God hears your prayers - so pray on it - believe me - it helps!

Qromeo --

Do you have a provisional patent or a pending utility patent?

Cookie:  I filed a utility patent application after a provisional and after much research.  I have been working on this project for approximately 3 years and expect to work on it for another year or 2.  I have had 2 attorneys so far and counting... Its been quite a learning experience.  I wish I knew 3 years ago what I know now.  :)

Hi Inventright,
I have a patent-pending for a comfortable pantyhose/undergarment. I sent a letter to Spanx (Sara Blakely) to see if she was willing to buy my invention that is compatable, and could be added to her collection, I even mentioned that I have future undergarment designs that could go along with the first invention.  After waiting few weeks, I called the company, the recieptionist said "we can not look at any designs for legal reasons".  I don`t know what to do.  Should I market it my self? Hosiery mfrs. are so hard to deal with.

MotionGuy,

Yeah, Provisional patents are great. We highly recommend using the. It`s a great way to fish off the end of the pier and see if anyone is interested in your idea without having to spend thousands of dollars to file a patent.

I wish you much success in all your invention related endeavors.

I too am interested! I have working proto types and an untapped market for same.
However; what are the average costs involved? How much should I be willing to grant a service, 25%, 4%?

There ARE no average costs.  Every product is different in its manufacturing cost, what it would cost to market it, etc. etc.
Get that prototype out there.  Start showing it.  See if there`s a market for it.  You need feedback to decide if it`s worth going forward.
