swaynester, what do you think about our plan to add a step-by-step process here at the site for commercializing your invention? emphasis on licensing? not that you`ve had any good ideas lately or anything...

OK. So, the ultimate monkey-human fighting challenge did not take off like I expected... It was a solid idea. Solid.
Seriously, I think that would be a big help, Rich. I get hung up in two areas--creating a prototype and trying to figure out the right next step "what documents do I need... who do I contact... how do I write a proposal..."
If you could somehow codify those steps and give resources along the way, it would answer a lot of the questions we get here in the community right out of the gate.

Good. Then we can talk about more important things... like monkey-human fighting.

Rich et al,

I`d love to see more information about whom we inventors can contact to (1) create a working prototype and (2) get it manufactured. I`ve got a couple things I`d like to go forward with now, and if I can get the first one or two under my belt, I`ve got more where they came from :)

MotionGuy,

If you`ve got lot`s of ideas that you`d like to work on, maybe manufacturing yourself is not the place to start.

Licensing might be a better option for you. When you start a company selling a new product, you should expect to be tied to that product and any similar product lines for at least two or three years. You won`t be able to work on your other ideas. Especially not those ideas that are in different markets.

If you license, you can let the manufacturer worry about the money, the manufacturing and the marketing. You get paid for every unit they sell.

I wish you much success in all your invention related endeavors.

BTW- We have a great 101 minute free tele-seminar on our website that gives you some great tips on licensing and may have you re-thinking your approach.

Andrew,

Thanks. Yes, I heard you and Stephen on the Tim Knox podcast a couple weeks ago, and listened to the tele-seminar. I had never heard of provisional patents until then, and I`m definitely intrigued by it, since I`m not particularly interested in manufacturing (or even selling) a couple of these items. To pursue the licensing track, how would you suggest that I go about finding a company that might be interested? One of my ideas has an obvious answer, since I met (purely by chance) the family that holds a patent and manufactures a product that is in the same genre as my idea. The other idea at the top of my list...not so clear.

Thanks for being a part of the SuN community, and welcome aboard.
