Just did an interview with Lexel Technologies (a startup nation member) and learned some great stuff about mobile marketing. check it out.

Yeah! text messaging is an effective medium of marketing today. But due to a lot of SMS's been sent by various advertisers/companies daily to the mobile users, its getting worst day by day. Most of the users would only go ahead to read messages from the brands that they are aware of... they are likely to delete those messages from unknown users or companies.

I think text marketing or mobile marketing is an interesting way of doing marketing. In this way we can really promote new promotions and special discount offers. Peoples love to have get some offer and specially through mobile is very good.... Cheers...
Text message marketing numbers are pretty impressive. If you check out the mobile statistics (both for general mobile and text messaging) the number of texts sent and read rates are ridiculously high. I don't think this is something we can ignore for long, the United States is pretty much saturated with cell phones and people have their phones with them ALL the time. So, the question is, why not?
I think this would be a super valuable strategy for businesses like restaurants. "Hey, we're slow, come in right now and we'll give you free drinks and an appetizer."

Text Message marketing is a great way to go for local marketing. Imagine being a restaurant and being able to text 3000-5000 local residents about a lunch special right before lunch time. Possibilities could be endless right? Text message marketing is finding is place in marketing and his helping to take advantage of the vast cell phone market.
Its a good way of marketing but the thing you need to be consider is Always respect the privacy of SMS subscribers by obtaining their permission through an opt-in procedure, and never purchase mobile phone number lists.
