I have patented and created an idea that is bringing what was once a thought into physical reality. My idea is simple: A 1,000 seat arena that gives host to local Talent Show`s. The arena`s exterior will look like a movie theater in NYC with two spotlights filling the sky, and the interior seating will be 500 seats on the bottom and 500 seats on the mezzanine level. When you walk in, the entrance will be similar to Radio City Music Hall, where beverages and restrooms will be placed. The Talent Show`s will be conducted from 7pm-10pm on both Friday`s and Saturday`s. During the week we will evaluate the talent and make a decision who will be in the show. The seats will be $10 a piece.

The Arena, will cover a wide range area (because in the future, we plan to expand to different area`s and possibly franchise) not yet determined. For example in New Jersey, where the first Arena will be, there will be an Arena in Central, NJ, one in Southern, NJ and one in Northern, NJ.

During the weeknights, I am thinking about renting the arena out to public speakers, theater groups and local bands.

Before I am up and running, I am looking for advice, feedback and to know if you genuinely like my idea. I love Startup Nation and look forward to all of your great advice.

My first career was in the entertainment industry, being a musician. When I was a kid, I thought talent shows were an excellent way to get some promotion, get the band out there, and possibly get some work in local clubs. Then I got older.

We tended to avoid talent shows, as they were mostly a way for places to get free entertainment. The only shows we even looked at were those that offered an exceptional prize of some sort, like a recording contract, a Vegas spot, or something that we knew had a lot of competition.

I also remember shows like The Gong Show, where people with no talent were likely there for the humor value. So it seems that if you`re going to have an ongoing talent show venue, you`ll either need some really substantial prizes, or you`re looking for a sort of comedy structure?

That is good council from Craig.

Let me ask you a question.  You are obviously excited and passionate about this idea.

I wonder if you can artuculate what specifically excites you about it?

If you can explore that, you may find a real gem of a business within your passion that might just show up in a way that does not have the severe challenges Craig identified.

J

Let me start by saying your passion is clear.  That is certainly a strength.  Consider Steve`s suggestion.  If you were to take your patented idea and break it into bite sized chunks, how many could you do without, and how many are not up for debate.  You might find a more feasible start that would bring you all the joy and prosperity you could stand.

I would much rather see a different version of your dream define your success, than your vision fulfilled without the desired outcome.  Consider the hundreds of thousands of people all over the country trying to make the final twenty of American Idol  If I paid $5 to see 90 minutes of William Hung wannabees the memory would remain and it would not be beneficial to your dream.

Your Dream has merit!  Don`t Give Up, Refine, Refine, and Refiine some more.
Good Luck!

This sounds like an excellent platform for Entrepreneurs and Talented Individuals to have a bit of the lime light.
