I currently use paypal but have not been able to use the portion of their company that allows credit cards.  There is some issue between them and the shopping cart company I use.

My webdesigner suggested I try www.2checkout.com but they have issues with lingerie and because that is what I sell they charge 2.5% per sale more then if I wasn`t and they want 6% set aside in reserves.

So what I am looking for is a company that handles the credit card sales and has a good reputation.

Any suggestions?

I would suggest checking out http://www.authorize.net/. As with everything concerning your business... do your own research.

I would be interested in hearing others. You can also look into http://www.truthinprocessing.com/.

AuthorizeNet is a great choice as well as Cardservices International:

http://www.cardservicesales.com

I don`t know how long you`ve been in business, but if you`re just getting started, it`ll probably be best to use the services such as 2Checkout.com to make sure you have a viable business and that you`ll make money. Otherwise, you`ll lock yourself into a contract with these credit card merchant providers.

If you`ve already been making money from your venture, then by all means, take the next step and get the real deal.

Also, you need to take a look at your images...they`re distorted on the preview pages because your webmaster didn`t take the time to properly resize those images. He or She should know better. If you paid them to put this site together, then they need to fix this.

It`ll hurt you in the short-run if you don`t get it taken care of and they knew very well what they were doing when they left it like this (if they did this).

These pictures should be crystal clear and not look like these:

And all they have to do is resize the original photo which appears here the proper way:

AZ,
First of all, 2checkout is paypal in disguise. Why go from one headache to another? I wasn`t aware of that until I did my own research and to my surprise.. As for Authorize.net its a good company who is currently in talks with Paypal. From what I been hearing they are going to sell the company to paypal which again leaves you in the dark. My advise would be to go with linkpoint, Linkpoint API`s are compatible with just about any Shopping Cart that is out there. Some of the things you have to be aware of with Credit Card processors are:

  1. What is their rate for online purchases
  2. Do they offer you a virtual terminal so you can take orders over the telephone?
  3. Do they provide you with a Credit Card Machine?
  4. Does your current web site support the payment gateway.

Once you know have established these 4 things, then you can start shopping for an online Credit Card Processing Solution. If you wish, I can set you up with Linkpoint at no cost to you. Some Company`s charge you for set up. I can waive that fee for you and you can be up and running in no time.
The way a credit card processing company works is they have two types of businesses. They have Qualifying merchants and a Non-Qualifying Merchants. If you are a sole proprietor and work out of your home, you are non-qualifying and your rate can start at 2.3% and if you are a qualifying business you have sales, and have a storefront, you can get it as low as 1.63 or less.
And you have the ability to take payments over the phone, fax, E-commerce, and Terminal. This would be a great advantage to you if your sales have been ramping up.
Forget about Paypal, and all these other companys. I am a Linkpoint User and I am happy with their services.
I have been for the past two years.

Yes the site is in need of help on the pictures, I will not be using the web designer I have been using to fix the problem though.  I will venture elsewhere to get them crystal clear.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions...

A couple of comments here... Google "merchant account reviews" and you;ll come across a few sites that tell you about the many different merchant accounts available, including their rates, their startup fees and if they have restrictions. This should help you in your research. I found mine this way, and have been very happy with it.

Authorize.net is a gateway used by many merchant accounts in order to process sales "realtime", meaning that the the credit card is charged immediately (same as Paypal usage). You can also process sales offline (meaning process the cards manually) until your business builds to a point where you can`t keep up with the manual processing and need to have realtime processing. There are merchant accounts that offer Authorize.net service free as part of their package, so this is something you will want to look into as well.

CardServiceInternational has been out there online for years--I recall using it some years back for a client, but it also started as a gateway (online at least) and has apparently moved into offering merchant accounts due to the profitability. Both CardService and Authorize.net are more expensive due to their longevity, perceived trust value, and so on... they may be where you want to go once you have a business built up, or as a gateway as part of another merchant account, but I do recommend that you shop around for merchant accounts and read all the reviews you can before making a decision.

To some extent I understand why the merchant accounts are a little leery when it comes to lingerie--it`s perceived as an adult item, which the pictures on your site tend to support (but they`re the kind of photos that sell, so...). Adult items carry more risk, particularly of chargebacks, so the company is trying to cover that risk for themselves since chargebacks are costly to all. Talk to the merchant account companies and see if you can`t get their rates down--talking to a real person is often the route to get better terms on your account. And ask if there are policies you can put into place that would help get those merchant rates down, in the end this will be of benefit to you as well, as you`ll see fewer chargebacks (for those who are unfamiliar with the term chargeback, this is another word for "returns", but from the merchant end).

In terms of your site, the opening screen is awful in Firefox--it shows as a small thumbnail at the top of the screen, and while it "works" in terms of being able to click a link, one needs a magnifying glass to see those links at all. The cart part of it is okay, if one can figure out how to get to it... except for the images.

The images issue is caused by the cart itself--it`s resizing the images to fit, and the resizing is distorting everything. The designer needs to find out what the default size of the images should be, then match the images to that sizing. You may be able to adjust the sizing in the cart itself so that some of this is unnecessary, but all the carts I`ve ever used require a maximum image size for thumbnails and for detail display, and these limits need to be observed or you get what you see on your site. Also check for spelling errors, I came across at least one on quick observation: under Romantic Lingerie, the top one has the word "mathing" and not "matching"... so maybe we`re doing a little addition with the lingerie?

Hopefully this will help you in your search....
