Christina -

Thank you for the welcome!

Yes, I feel like I`ve already made some new friends with all the warm welcomes and positive feedback I`ve been receiving.  Looking forward to more positive interactions at SuN.

Have a nice weekend.

Valerie

Hi all,

I first visited SUN last week and this week started responding to some of you on the forum.  In the process of doing that, my life plan crystalized, I figured out how to meld a couple passions with a couple of talents, and today find myself on the cliff overlooking startup abyss for the third time in my life.   For the first time I feel I have the time to prepare before I leap and the support I need to fly rather than fall.

So, "Thank you."

thank you, spungey - you`ve made some great contributions here in our forums.

one thing i`ve found over time is that the more you teach (or "share" in this case), the more you learn.

wishing you great success.

you know what they say about the third time...

one thing i`ve found over time is that the more you teach (or "share" in this case), the more you learn.

That is SO totally true!!

One of the biggest problems for an entrepreneur is being isolated from other people and their thinking, ideas, critiques, and opinions. The result is to fall into a belief system that whatever we think, individually, it "must be right."

A secondary problem with that isolation is to believe that because we "simply know" that something is impossible, therefore it is. We don`t even attempt to solve an "obviously" impossible problem because we can`t imagine or envision any other way of doing things.

The third problem, in context, is that we can only ask whatever questions we dream up in our own mind. We never ask "ridiculous" questions because we feel they`re exactly that---ridiculous.

Being part of a group in any way has a tremendous impact on these three aspects of isolation. So many times we just assume that because we know something, it must be right, true, and correct. We bandy around thoughts, rules, beliefs, and so on, never questioning at all that we may be completely wrong.

Conversation, discussion, debate, education---all these forms of interactive communication help test our assumptions, push us in directions we`d never have imagined, and generally make demands on what can become mental laziness.

There`s nothing better than working out ways to explain complex ideas to either people who`ve never heard of them, or even better, to a 7-yearold. :-) The sorts of questions you get in return are amazing, and stretch the mind in fantastic directions.

My mind must certainly have now distended to an unrecognizable shape.  :-)  I spent all day yesterday trying to answer the questions of a 4-year old and a 7-year old granddaughter.

First I want to thank the creators of Start Up Nation; this is a great place to learn and share information; and I`m thankful for the opportunity to post in the Marketplace listings.

I really want to thank everyone on SuN who has taken the time to read my Marketplace listings.  Some of followed through to my websites, but it hasn`t generated any sales for me.  So that tells me one of two things:  I either need to rewrite my listings to get more people to my web site, and get them to register their children; or I need to figure out why there isn`t any conversion rate.  Any ideas as to why?  (other than assuming parent just arent` interested in giving their children the highest level of safety)

Hi! I am sure that there was interest. It is a touchy subject and folk`s usually displace that info thinking that will make it never happen. I have been saying for years that i want a gps tracker implanted in my daughter. I have seen way to much happen to kids with the work I do and even though some people think it is crazy, I think why not? I think that you should run some safety seminars for parents and kids in schools and organizations where the package is part of the engagement. This would not only educate people...you obviously know a lot about this but it would also increase your revenue...and it may even save a child...so go for it!!

Erin,
thanks for replying and your suggestion; but believe it or not, that is one of our marketing tools; to offer free child safety seminars to educate the parents on the problems.  But, can you imagine, I can`t even get the parents to come to the free seminars.  One of my affiliates, just ran a whole month of 2 a week, at her public library, and it was well publisized; and she had 1 person show up for one of them.  At least you do realize there is a problem, and you are a concerned parent, and that is good.  Last month, I paid for a booth to set up at an expo, and I literally had to force people to take one of our brochures.   Its hard to get into the schools and PTA`s because they say, OH, we do the child I.D. program.  (well, if you`ve read my article, that only I.D. a body, it doesn`t protect nor eeducate parents and children, and it doesn`t help locate your missing child.  Parents have the mentality that this isn`t a problem, and it will never happen to them, but then so has all the parents of missing children, said the same thing.  Anyway, I`m not trying to pitch a sale to you, it is just discouraging to try to get the info to parents when you can`t get them to listen.  Believe it or not, I am more interested in spreading the information, than selling the program.  I just want to make parents aware of the problems and let them decide if they want to take the extra precaution and protect their children. But I do appreciate your response.
