Hello SuNers.  I recently put in a request on Wikia.com, a free wiki hosting site, for a Web Development Wiki.  What I want this to be is a web development central, a Wikipedia for web dev full of information on the different types of programming languages as well as actual scripts, code snippets, tutorials, etc.  On my request page, there is a "Comments from the community" section.  If any of you have a Wikia account and like my idea, please go there and post your support.  There is also a "Community" section where you post links to forums that are on this topic and would be interested in the wiki.  If any of you know of any, please post the URLs here so I can add them.  To visit my request page, go to http://requests.wikia.com/wiki/Webdev

Hi CommanderK :-)
My question would be how is this different than, say, WebMonkey or the several other well-known resource sites for developers?

The WebDev Wiki would be different from WebMonkey as it will be an open community for web developers to share their knowledge.  I also want it to be direct and simple to understand.  Most of the sites I`ve seen have lengthy, difficult to comprehend tutorials.  There are times when I prefer a quick answer to my question.  I envision the wiki to be that type of resource avaliable to web developers.

Why not, er ... make your own wiki site?

Not being picky, just wondering what the advantages are here.

I logged in to show support, btw.

I wanted to go through Wikia because they already have a large community of users who browse the categories and also that the wiki would already be partially set-up and freely hosted.  However, my request has been denied, so I may well create my own site.  Thanks for the support.
