As I sit here this morning, sipping on my freshly-ground Starbucks coffee and reading through my emails, it struck me how much our Sunday mornings have changed.

I remember when I was a kid, my dad going out early on Sundays to get the Sunday Detroit News and starting up the coffee percolator.  We`d sit down as a family for breakfast and after that, me and my siblings would watch Oopsy the Clown or Davey & Goliath before we went to church.

Today, I don`t attend church and with running a business, my Sunday morning routine is quite different than that of my childhood.

What is your Sunday morning like?  Do you still do some of the same things you did as a kid?

I have to agree that times have changed. Sunday used to be a family day. Now with running a mortgage branch and my new start up the phone never stops ringing and the emails never stop. I do schedule in family time, but it`s not consistent like it used to be. I love what I am doing, and I would not change a thing right now.

Sunday is a relaxing day for me, that includes serious spiritual activities, walking 2 miles weather permitting.  Boring? It`s a good routine to recharge the mind and the body, putting all business things away.

Actually - Sunday still is a family day - its a RECHARGE and REJUVENATE DAY. I see a lot of families out doing things in groups - soccer games, shopping trips, concerts, plays, field trips, etc. Did you ever notice family reunions meet on Sundays in the Summer?  Sunday around my area seems to be the day that people schedule activites - its not on Saturdays.

Someday I hope my on-the-side endeavor becomes full-time,  like your current business` are - in the meantime, as am in  between occpations (unemployed) I notice a lot about my self-employed friends.  They all LOVE what they do!  Would not change a thing - however, they tell me that God gave them their skills and abilities, they are the managers (of what GOD provided) their businesses, BUT - they all say they GOD comes first -then their families, then their business` and community volunteerism -  so they make a point to weekly attend their respective churches to tithe a portion of their gross income.  They pick the services that are easiest for their families and their business schedule.   They also tell me - that when they give back to GOD - business seems to be better with less surprises. I guess what I am saying here, is they purposely set a weekly appointment to spend time at their local church services.

Personnaly it is my goal is to keep the MAIN thing, the MAIN thing.  The MAIN thing is GOD in my life (and fellowship with others); I attended church services this morning.  This may sound odd, but my friends and I even attend different when we are out of town.

Sunday is a day of rest and being with my family.  Being in mortgage sales and working on my web sites takes a lot of time during the week.  But on Sunday, I do not turn my cell phone on!  I just finished playing checkers and domino`s with my 7 and 2 year old.  If you do not stop and spend time with your loved ones.......what`s the point?

this sunday morning was a special one - starting with an appearance on MSNBC. it was strange watching my brother and me on the boobtube! but it was exciting b/c i know it will create ever greater awareness of this amazing community of people.

the usual ritual is taking in CBS Sunday Morning. from the french horn at the beginning of the hour, to the very end of the 1.5 hour show, i always feel completely swept away by the diversity of smartly presented topics - news stories, artist features, film reviews, pop culture perspectives, spoofs, and unexpected stories of the world people and the world around us.

then it`s typically a dog walk into town with my wife and doggies... destination starbucks.

then, as the morning somehow gets away from us, it`s picking off those leftover errands saturday didn`t see finished.

sunday afternoons and evenings are "get ready for the week" hours. checking back in here after a brief hiatus, doing that writing that`s so hard to do amidst weekday mania, and organizing lists/priorities.

more broadly, sunday mornings are a contributor to something i love in my life... "ritual". with things as uncertain as they are in the world, and as fast moving as they regrettably seem to be, thank goodness for ritual. and sunday morning as one of them...

Sunday mornings usually start out slow around our house.  I`ll make lattes, grab the local paper and New York Times off the porch, and start watching the Tivo-ed CBS Sunday Morning show while rading the papers.  Mid-morning my partner will usually fix breakfast.  Lately (like today) Sunday has been a day for me to work on my book without any interuptions.  When not writing a book, Sunday is often a day to get out and "play in the dirt." There`s always a nap on Sunday afternoon - and it`s just about time for that now.

As a kid, Sunday mornings usually meant getting up early and my parents would drive us to Sunday school at church.  They didn`t attend church at all - just got us out of their hair for a couple hours.  The rest of the day was either spent working in the yard or going on a family adventure in the station wagon.

Hmm... Sunday mornings. I used to get up, fix myself some breakfast (and by that I mean pop a waffle in the toaster or pour a bowl of cereal) and then usually vegetate in front of the tv while I ate. After that, my mom was typically up and  ready for some shopping or some sort of house project (usually something fun). And of course, there were always chores to be done, but  I did those last.

Nowadays... I roll out of bed around 10 or 11am, scramble a couple eggs or whatever`s leftover from the previous night, and head for the laptop on the couch. I go through  emails and respond to people, let out my three fuzzbutts and feed them, and then usually get started on all my weekly housecleaning stuff, and deciding what I`m going to have for lunch everyday. Sometimes I wish Sunday morning were as simple as it used to be

Jeff -

Your parents would take you to Sunday school and they wouldn`t attend church?  LOL!  Wow!

My parents used to drag us off to church every Sunday morning.  It would only take a few minutes before my dad would start nodding off.  My brother and I used to immitate him and we would always get busted when we tried to supress a laugh.

I agree with Christina - if only Sunday morning were simpler ... I suppose they can be if you make them.  I have 3 kids, so they`re constantly in need of some sort of stimulation, so naps are out of the question!
