Start by hitting up some of your local shoe stores.  Talk with the owners and see what you can work out.  I`m sure you will learn a lot about approaching others as well.

Crocs was started here in my town, Boulder.  They sold in a few local shops before they went big and national.

I would look into seeing if there is a national shoe manufactures association that has markets  you can attend. There is a chance you can set up a booth there and present your products to hundreds of retail stores.

There has to be a demand to get into the wholesale/distribution channel.

For example, I have a friend that wrote a book for his little girls.  He made a few extra copies and passed it on to some friends and family.  He started getting calls from strangers asking him for copies so he decided to publish this book.  However, no publisher wanted this book, but told him he had a good story.  He went onto self-publish and put it in local stores.  Copies sold out--they couldn`t keep them in the store.  He went on to have his story become #1 on the NY Times Best sellers list.  He was still self-published at that time.  He ended up selling that little book for about 4.5 million dollars to a publishing company.  That book has sold over 8 million copies and has been translated into over 20 languages.  The book is called "The Christmas Box" by Richard Paul Evans.

He didn`t get find anyone that would give him a chance at the big channels.  It was by getting his foot in the door and creating a demand that put him into the spot that he created.

Don`t pass up the little opportunities as they will help to make the bigger opportunities.

I`d suggest you become a member of the AAFA and advertise on their publications as they are geared to your potential market.
