Pricing really isn`t my thing ... not my area of expertise.

What is, though, is what makes a customer lose interest in a site.
And pricing when you are talking about pennies is not high on the list.

I mean, if you were selling $400 t-shirts, that`s one thing.

But the difference between $13.27 and $13.99 ...
well, let`s just say in the web world ... not really so much an issue.

I just went to my amazon front page and looked at the bestsellers books.
The first one was $18.89 and had some weird savings, like 46%.
The second was $14.37 with a 40% savings.
I often look at Amazon in terms of online shopping because, quite honestly, they really got it right.

People are going to buy it or they are not in an online store. They are not going to drop their cart because the product was $4.42 vs $4.99 vs $5.
What WOULD make them drop the cart is if the book was $700 when they expected a book to be $20 or less, just as I expected my t-shirts to be $20 or less.

Which they were, so I bought one for baby and one for me.

PS - because I`m getting a blank window trying to edit again too -

I like my `fearless leaders` to make a `mistake` or 2 every once in a while ...
and to accept feedback with grace, and to make changes.

It makes you better for being human too.

(Not that this was even a `mistake` in my POV, but apparently Rich thought it was.)

Regardless of the arguments...I thought it was fun...and funky...kind of kept even the idea of buying and selling at a comfortable fun atmosphere...which is hard to accomplish in the virtual world! I say kudos for leaving it on the back burner...gave me a good chuckle...and as a typical consumer...I have to agree with the comment regarding Amazon`s pricing versus what I have seen in the past. These days...I almost get frustrated with the 0.99 idea...because everyone KNOWS what that is and why they do it...which is slightly condescending in my eyes. Do you REALLY think I am dumb enough to fall for the 0.99 schpeal..."under $300....for a mere $299...you too could have XYZ"!?

Anyway...I thought it was kind of fun...sorry to bring it up...was really just curious...not trying to start a big discussion over it!

You let us know when the new ones are up with the fabulous sayings that you pick and I am SOOOOOOOOOO getting the T-shirts!!!!  And a mug....and maybe a mouse pad....or a hat...hmmmm....do you guys have bags....life a canvas bag...or a briefcase type!!!??

Nikole,

Look, it really isn`t that big of a deal, but the original `excuse` was. It was big of Rich (hey, he could be a country music star - Big & Rich) to say what he did. Shout out!

I don`t think your Amazon example is a good one. They are reflecting % off of retail - which is their USP anyway - so of course their prices will be funky. They are also way less than retail, which is not the case here.

Anyway, I did spend a few weeks and lots of cash at a Harvard strategy session on pricing, among other things. Yes, it is a big deal. Odd price points bring up stuff like this - % markup - which leads to the `how much markup?` question.

Then again, SuN branded merch. is a bit of a monopoly, so all of this is out the window. But thanks, Rich, for being in my corner on this one. That doesn`t happen much around here.

Hi - I am new to the site...it`s great. So for my first post I am going to try my hand at some ideas for your t-shirts, onesies etc...

I love my boss...it`s me!

I love the company I work for...I own it!

I own this mug and everything in it

You see this smile? I own my own company.

Don`t be bored...sit on the board of your own company

I`m so good at what I do...I hired myself

Now I bring home the bacon and pay someone to fry it up in the pan

My mommy started her own company and had me...is she good or what?

My daddy loves me most of all...but don`t tell his employees

My English is so poor that I can`t express my ideas in English! But Joel, I can give you some advice: some national anthems have the similar words and can interest more men.
