Engraver -

You`re not gonna believe this, but my next door neighbor put up a wire fence, and they got through that. So she bought some bricks and built a wall around it, and they got through that also. (I`m guessing they dug under?)  So maybe the fox urine or hair would work.

I do have 2 very prey-driven dogs, it`s just that I don`t have a fence to keep them from chasing the rabbits forever :-)  I probably should just put up a fence and let them have a doggie door, so they can go out anytime they like. They`ve almost caught rabbits before, so I know they could do it. I`d rather them just chase them off, but hey whatever works.

"prey-driven" - love that term. sounds like some entrepreneurs i know! i`ve used ample ("endless," actually) amounts of golden retreiver hair in my herb garden area and have also barricaded the plants with 2ft. high wire fencing.

i have sprayed "Deer Off" at the base of some of my potted plants to prevent not deer, but squirrels from constantly forraging deep into the soil for an acorn or two... and it`s worked very well. on the container it says it works for wascally wabits, too. maybe you could give that a try...

Gah... squirrels.... don`t even get me started on those bushy-tailed rodents! They ate my oak trees (young oak trees) and they terrorize my bird feeders.

We sit on our patio chairs and shoot them off the fence with "super soakers."  The only problem is, I think the squirrels are starting to think it`s a game...

the squirrels have gotten so friendly here that i once darted out of the screen door to shoo one away, flailing my arms and making shaman-inspired sounds, and all the squirrel did was hop toward me! they are incredible destructive little things...

96% today. the lavender is dry and happy. a hot, gusty wind is having a convection oven effect on everything today. and my first cherry tomato reddened up... ahhh, yes, the dog days of summer are in swing... or was that the "squirrel days" of summer?!

Hey, part of being a successful entrepreneur at first is saving money, look how much you would save on dog food bills.

As for the squirrels, what type of bird feeders do you have? Dangling ones or free standing pedistals like bird baths? Either way, go to the store and get some turtle wax and wax the heck out of everwhere but the spots were the birds actually land. You could use stuff like cooking spray, but it doesn`t last as long and it also attracts insects. Also set up a camera, because it is the funniest thing to watch. Or if you are really cruel...I better stop here in case there are some Animal rights activists in here, but lets just say "no animal has been euthenized from the hours of entertainment I have inflicted...I mean playfully...who am I kidding, THAT I HAVE INFLICTED over the years."

I have 2 hanging bird feeders on a double shepherd`s hook. I was going to buy a squirrel baffle, but it won`t fit over the bottom of the pole. I`ve heard of putting Vaseline on it, but I haven`t ever heard of waxing it. Works good, eh? I think I could certainly get some amusement from that :-) Maybe I need to set up a "slippery squirrel cam" for people to watch. *L*

Between the squirrels and the rabbits, my yard is a regular petting zoo. Of course, now we also have kitties. They aren`t my kitties, and I have no idea where they came from, but I feel sorry for them (until they eat my birds) and I was thinking of feeding them, and perhaps they`ll keep the squirrels away. Of course, since there`s much easier access to the bunnies, they`ll probably eat those instead. But I can dream, right?

turtle wax is good because it doesn`t come off in the rain too quick.
