Ripose,

Don`t worry I`m still here for the original intent of the thread.

For search engines a domain name can`t really be too long.  However, for your user it can.  Even though there is a huge benefit to having a short + keyword domain name your ultimate goal is to make it relevant and memorable to your user.

Customers or users will have a hard time remembering your site and doesn`t create a brand.

So there is a fine line between branding and valuable keyword domain.  Sometimes you have to do a mix, abbreviations or think of descriptive words to make combinations that are short and memorable.

There is no disadvantage... But if you read carefully the name of the thread is not how to pick a domain name.. it`s about domain name selling and buying.. Now for the sake of the conversation.. The shorter the domain name, the easier it is for customers to remember it. But that is only a rule..
You can have a domain name as long as 55 0r 75 characters I believe..
but can you imagine..

Keep it simple..

Actually you are wrong.  The name of this thread is not buying and selling domain names and if you read my original post then you would see that it was not the topic either. Don`t get me wrong I`ve appreciated your input and support but you`ve been off topic as well.

My original intention was to help others become educated and find the best domain name for their business so he`s right on track.

Thanks for the answers.

While I`m here; could someone "steal traffic" from me merely by adding an "s" to my domain name?

possibly but it depends if you domain name would really have that high enough volume of traffic to make it worth someone`s time

Answer: Yes they could.  However, it`s unlikely.  If you want I`d be happy to give you some advice on it.  PM me with your website url.
