"Everything that ever was was once and for a while a dream"  Another rookie coming to boot camp. I know what I know but  I am also capable of learning almost anything, just keep hitting me with the 2x4 long enough and eventually the concepts will stick. Creating and sustaining any idea requires two things marketing and getting the numbers right. Without any resources or experience how does one get the right information and coaching to make that business dream come true?

.....Creating and sustaining any idea requires two things marketing and getting the numbers right.

Hi there, DiVolvo... :-)

There are some really good articles on this site about starting a business, steps toward doing it, and so forth. Many of the forum topics are divided into the various aspects of starting and running a small microbusiness.

But I`d like to take a second look at your above premise. It`s true that everything begins in the imagination, and someone simply says, "Hey! I think I can make that happen!" But to create the idea (in this context) doesn`t require numbers and marketing. It requires passion and dedication, and the sustained believe that the idea can be made real.

We had a discussion about working "in" the business, versus "on" the business, and it brings up the question of what you intend to do with an idea. Focusing on having the "right numbers" and all that marketing is important, but is it "in" or "on" the business?

From what I`ve learned, reading all these threads, it seems that perhaps the key issue about "starting off right" is to have an Exit Strategy in mind. That comes into play with a "Life Plan." In other words, why would you want to devote all that time and energy to making an idea into a reality?

People get overwhelmed all the time, worrying about the right business plan, best marketing strategy, building a Web site, finding money, resources, and all the thousands of steps that go into making any idea a reality. It`s not supposed to be that hard! It`s supposed to be Fun! :-)

Y`know?

Have you thought about what type of business you would like to do? If so, have you had an opportunity to develope a business plan? If not, you may want to mingle with a few ideas. I would first start with a brain storming session. Get all your ideas in writing. Choose the idea based on pros and cons. Make a decision, and create a summarized business plan on what you would like to do. What are some concerns? Write them out, and then do some research.

I will echo what others have said and also tell you to read Start Ip Nation. It is a very well written and will provide some additional insight. Some other great books are eMyth by Michael Gerber and Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.

Good Luck,

John

I recomend Rich Dad Poor Dad as well. My sig has a great place to learn. Helps me anyways. Raisecapital01 has some very good points that I agree with. Another question you may want to ask yourself is-how much time can you spare to work on your new business? If what you choose has a high start up cost and you can`t put enough time into it to make it work you`ll be out a lot of money(obviously). What will you use as your funded proposal? When I started my first business I was all excited and didn`t think it through. I was a construction worker at the time. I had a high start up cost and no time to make it work. All the money I spent to build it went down the drain because I didn`t have the time to maintain it. I didn`t expect to have to put so much effort into it, and boy was I surprised!
