Your thoughts on this.

I have been working on the Pet Business for most of my life, this is what I know to do....

I want to start my own business so I can have more control of my future since I believe I have reached the max when it comes to salary.

I can not quit my job and then try to do it by myself, I will have to work but then at the same time start my own venture similar to what I do already....

Any thoughts on how I can successfully achieve this or is this totally wrong or is it how many people do it anyways... after all, this is what you know what to do.

Looking for opinions on this matter.

Thanks.

FishGuy,

You're not really clear about what part of the pet industry you're in. But, my gut feeling is it's gong to be a bit rough to work for someone and do the same thing at the same time. If I found an employee doing that in my business I'd probably promote them to keep them close to me or fire them right off.

And, yes, you are right. We stick with what we know and grow from there.

It would really help to know what you do, what you plan, how long it will take to get going and what it's going to cost.

Let us know.

There is nothing wrong with starting out on your own in a field of business that you are currently in. Like Rick mentioned, to do that while you are still working for your current job is not something that will likely work out. What you can do however is try to start something in the pet related industry that you are not currently involved in, and do it as a side job until you build it up.

Quick question though, why can't you quit your job and just start your own business? You seem to have the knowledge and experience, and it most likely seems like your best bet.

If you feel that you have enough experience that you can start and handle your business then there is nothing wrong in starting your own business.

If you have a written employment agreement, make sure that the agreement does not have a non-competition clause.

Given the competition in the clothing business, the most important thing would be to strategize on how your company will be different from the others currently present in the market and how you are going to communicate this to your customers.

Best thing you could do is offer an auxiliary service that your current employer isn't offering. That way, it's a win-win. It'll also make it easy to get customers right away. If you want to offer the same services, you'll probably have to quit or take a strong risk in getting fired and burning bridges.

I think it is a very good idea to start your own business in the field you have the experience.
