I'm seriously looking into starting a hot wings takeout business in a small city population about 100k. We do have a Buffalo Wild Wings which i believe almost everyone knows of and most love to hang out at. There are 2 colleges in town both with enrollment of about 4000 each. We have 5 high schools in town. However, we do not have anything as far as a delivery wings service. We do have restaurant courier services but they are ridiculously expensive. I think it's something i could make work and i know there are a few franchises that do exactly this and they are becoming extremely popular. I definently don't want to do the franchise thing and will be trying to keep start up costs as low as possible of course. Any input you guys have would be greatly appreciated, any experience someone might have to pass on would also be great. Thanks for takin the time to at least read my post and a super thanks to anyone who replies!

If you are looking just to deliver, then you need to talk with your local government concerning food services regulations for your kitchen and business in general. You also need a reliable vehicle and driver to deliver your wings. Advertise in billboards, newspaper, and social networks near your location. Check out who your suppliers will be and make sure you will like their wings before you sell them. I guess this goes without saying but ensure you have a delicious recipe. I'm almost salivating just writing this.

Hi Chad,

I think your idea is great and there is indeed a market in your area (based on your description). Yeah I wouldn't go with the franchise thing too. If you think you can do it then I guess you should go for it.

You could find yourself struggling at first to get your name out there, but over time people will begin using your services quite frequently. With your town not having a delivery service for such a thing it could be a huge hit, but it is of course a 50/50 chance.

Opening a business is such a hard thing to do, but your plan is great. You should consider having an online ordering system too. With the amount of people that rely on the Internet to place meal orders it could turn out to be a huge hit, especially among the college students.

thanks for the replies guys. I'm definently serious about doing it, i'm trying to get some pro-forma financials put together right now just so i can have some idea of what to expect. my problem is finding some sort of comparables for sales on hot wings. As i stated there is nothing around that does this. Any ideas on getting comparable numbers? i thought about acting interested in some of the Franchises available to see if i could just get some numbers from stores they have in comparable sized areas, but i'm not sure they give out info like that? any other ideas on finding comparable numbers for the type of sales i could expect? I'm trying to keep as much of the guess work out of my proformas as possible!!!

thank
