Where do I began. I am looking to start my own baby nursing agency, but I am not sure where to begin. I know that I want to hire people as independent contractors, but I am not sure what forms I need and what are the federal or state guidelines or requirements. Can someone please help me?

Based on what I know (not a lot) about daycare facilities, I think your initial and perhaps largest problem is going to be security. I don`t mean against terrorist attacks, but rather the exponentially increasing social paranoia about children cared for by strangers (to the family).

Before you get too involved in your contractors, I`d suggest you do some very thorough research into the entire issue of bonding, legal protections, background checking, and contracts. The problems I hear about have to do with allegations of anything from abuse to neglect. And that`s the problem---allegations.

It seems as though in the childcare field, people are considered guilty until proven innocent. Regardless of why someone fields an allegation, the impact of having even one such a charge can easily wipe out your business and your personal reputation.

That being said, I think there`s a viable business involving infant care, as long as you`re VERY clear on what you`ll offer, how you`ll offer it, under what conditions, and with what precautionary systems you`ll have in place. That means a large part of your startup budget perhaps being assigned to attorney consultation.

I`m not sure if there are attornies who specialize in something like this, and that too, would be part of your research. What`s your own personal background, and how did you become inspired with this idea?
