I am thinking of starting up a new business or at least getting started on the start-up costs late in this calendar year.  Should I delay writing off the start-up costs until next year or go ahead and write them off this year?

Maybe start-up costs can help you business better because it is a little hard for the starting .If not pay more for it ,it can't set up well in short time.

Writing off the start-up cost will provide base to your business.

I would highly suggest you go speak with a tax accountant.  I'm sure one can provide some basic advice for you for no cost.
