I`m a startupnation newbie and when I found this category I couldn`t possibly pass up the opportunity to post to it. My new business is coffee. My wife and I started Cafe Elisa, LLC (www.cafeelisa.com) to sell the coffee we grow on the family farm in Boquete, Panama. We import the green (unroasted) coffee to San Diego and roast it on demand to fill orders so it is as fresh as it can be. So far we have served samples to nearly 1000 people at various events and everyone loves it.

Well, anyway, hello to everyone and come visit our website. In addition to the regular products there is a beautiful holiday basket my wife designed (and wraps up herself).

Happy holidays!

welcome cafeElisa. I hope to hear more about your business. Hey, how long have you been in operation as a coffee farmer? Just curious about the learning curve to get into the business.

The farm was purchased in May of 2005. It had already been in operation as a coffee farm since about 1993. We have a part time supervisor and a full time live-on worker. Our catuai trees (a variety of arabica) typically take 3-4 years from a seedling to a bean producing tree and are productive for up to 20 years. New seedlings are planted yearly as old trees die or stop producing.

As far as the learning curve goes, we are still on a very steep slope :). My wife`s brother-in-law is an agricultural professor at the University of Panama, so that`s a big help.
