Last year I decided to do a blog for my website. Within 2 hours of creating my blog, my e-mail inbox and bulk mail box were flooded with undelivered mail messages. I opened a couple of them and found that people were using my e-mail address to send spam. Over the course of two days I received approximately 200 of these. I cancelled my blog and deleted it from my website and the spam stopped. Last week, I received an offer to create a 3 page website from a company I do business with, and the spam has started again. Not as many as the last time. One of the messages even said that it had a known virus attached to it. Has this happened to any of you, and if so what can be done about it?

Just get a good spam filter.

And I`d suggest using your email address associated to not be something generalized (info@yourcompany.com) but something more specific (like nhg@nhgconsulting.com).

This happens to everyone with a website. I own about 25 domains and see a lot of spam every day.

I also see alot of spam. the more web sites, the more spam. Set your filters on your inbox and keep an email that you don`t use in business websites to use locally.

Thanks for the advice. I do use two different e-mail addresses, one for business, one for personal. It just upsets me that other people can use my business name to send spam.

Spam is the unfortunate byproduct of all the efficiency and productivity the Internet offers us. It affects all Internet users and because of it legitimate business have barriers to communicate with their clients electronically. I would encourage you to stick with the blog because they are a great way to get your message out. Tell the world what you and your business do.

It’s a shame that a full bad apples spoil the bunch.

Regards,

Howard
