Saw this on the news today , have been looking for an idea to start a business and this looked like it might have hit the spot.

What insurance/permits/ liscense would you have to get to be certified to do this ?

Where would you go about purchasing a bulk supply of material ?

Does this look like a good investment ?

Sorry to make this so short just saw it on the news and wanted to see some opinions on it before i went to class

Woolan- Assume you are viewing this opportunity as a solar contractor.  There are pros cons of the solar shingles ( in the industry they refer to as BIPV "built in Photovoltaic))vs panels.  The part of the country you are from-solar insolation wise and state energy policy wise is important. (rebates/incentives etc)  Calif. leads US states in activity by far. There are many value added distributors/reseller located throughout the US and world as a source. regards Scott

I have not heard of these but it sounds like a good idea.  I would buy them if the following conditions were met:

  • proven to work with actual stats available
  • cant be more than 25 to 40% more than traditional shingles unless they offer me huge savings
  • trustworthy contractor / fully certified
  • Would espesially be apt to buy if somone i knew had already purchased

It will work for a while until people recalculate and figure out it's a scam.

Does not mean you won't make money doing it.  Learn how to save energy in general before you start anything.

I disagree with the statement it is a scam.  The shingles are actually cost affective as they replace the shingles that normally go on the roof.  That is part of the savings over standard solar panels that are after market add ons to homes.  There are several companies currently licensing people to install the shingles.  Unfortunately,I don't remember their names.  However, you can do a Google search and come up with a number of hits using the phrase "Solar Shingles."   You can read an article in the Pahrump paper on the subject.  Follow the link below.                                                                                                 http://archive.pahrumpvalleytimes.com/2010/Jul-09-Fri-2010/news/36842908.html
