Has anyone used software like Business Plan Pro to write a business plan? Are these type of software useful and worth purchasing?

We have referred many clients to that software and they all seem to make great use of the step by step functions and graphs etc... It is also very affordable. You still have to do background research on your own to fill in those areas of need.

I have recomended Business Plan Pro to my clients and it seems to do the job but you need to remember that it is the first two pages that will sell the lender on you and your project.

I prefer BizPlanBuilder from JIAN software [ www.jian.com ] because it uses Word and Excel and it has a collaboration feature so we can work together with our clients on the plan.

I`ve always been a big believer in a solid business plan book rather than software, myself!

Good luck!

Have not tried any software, but got bits and pieces from different books.  However, the most useful biz plan I found was a template online written by a college professor.  Will have to dig up the link.  I took it and plugged in biz plan info for two different companies and it turned out great.

I`ve used Business Plan Pro and liked the step by step approach and ease of writing down my thoughts, then going back and editing them as I thought things through to a deeper level. Having the plan broken down in sections allows you to click back and forth from section to section as you refine the plan.

I`ve looked at a number of different business plan formats from examples that I`ve found in various places, and I liked the one I found at SCORE (http://www.score.org/business_toolbox.html). I used that format and changed some of the sections based on other templates/examples. There are many examples out there that step you through it, without paying for software.
That`s been my preference.
