I"m in the process of updating or creating my profile on  social networking sites and would be interested in hearing everyone`s opinion on the different sites. Do you prefer LinkedIn or Facebook? What do you think of Fast Pitch? Are there others that you would recommend for small business?

I am on all 3 and I personally like the professionalism if Linkedin. I have answered questions on linked in and actually earned business from it. Fast pitch networking is very rich in different things you can do with it such as press releases.

I personally stick with these 3, there are more and more popping up but I have to resist the urge to sign up for every single social networking site trying to be the next myspace for businesses.  Keep us posted if you do find a few outside of these 3 that have some unique and compelling features.

I have Linkedin and Facebook. I guess it depends on what you want from the social networking site as to which you get on.

I`ve had business come my way from Facebook, Linkedin MySpace and others - different kinds of work from the potential market on each.  I found social networking/media to be a great way to market my last book.

Now when it comes to marketing and Social Network Sites i got that covered pretty well. Here is some sites that can help you and also some information about the sites you listed above.

Secondlife.Com
Everyone needs this platform go virtual and get your business established into a community with over 2 million people usually 45 thousand logged in at 1 time on the network in secondlife checking out diffrent stores, hanging out and or having a good time. they have their own currency exchange in secondlife that converts to USD so you get paid in secondlife as well. Check it out its worth it.

Myspace
(everyone has one why not) i would suggest using a "myspace blaster" to stratigically market your city or zip code for your business

addnewfriends.com
(myspace blaster program) i would suggest using this program very carefully when you mass message people on myspace or add them as your friend.

craigslist.com
(basically a social network environment)

Facebook
(its okay to certain degrees) if you know the people and you can pull up their address and personal contact details so you can stay intouch.

Twitter.com
(i think thats the name CNN uses it alot for blogging)

uship.com
(if you do online shipping and stuff like that) this site is great for setting up your business to send out merchandise and bigger inventory to people who purchase it. Also has a social network type of platform

For most small businesses, I would recommend looking for forums and groups in their niche or for their local area. Simply Google "keyword" forum and "keyword" group because that`s where their target market is hanging out. Also check Ning.com to see if there are groups their.

For virtual types like the majority on this forum I still recommend targeting niches. It`s much better to be the best virtual assistant/business consultant/marketing conslutant for one industry than to be someone who can do anything. "if we try to be all things to all people we become nothing to everyone."

Depending on your industry there are a lot of groups o Facebook to join, but you can always start your own group and build your own page for your niche and your business. They both get ranked by Google and may pass pagerank back to your main site as well.

I think it really depends on your target market.  Linkedin seems to be aimed at more professional corporate types.  MySpace still seems to attract the creative, artsy, young crowd.  Facebook seems to attract alot of solopreneurs.  Figure out where your target market hangs out, and then work that site rather than spreading yourself too thin.  Oh, and you might try Twitter as well.

likewise, ive had leads from 6 different social networking sites. the key in my opinion is to take it one at a time and establish a deep presence within each. after you have done that things tend to run on autopilot but time does need to be put in upfront in establishing yourself and your network.  SNs are extremely viral.  creating groups around certain niches has worked real well for me.

good luck to you

I have used My Space and Facebook both. It has helped get my name out there and make some wonderful connections
I had never heard of  Linkedin, so I will check it out.
