Hi ,

Whenever I type a URL in a browser , I always have to type http: // . . . / kind of words.

I tried to solve that issue and other DNS complex issues by creating a web based solution and make that service available at:

http://www.dukewalk.com/

I tried to solve many complex things relate to DNS and simplify it. Please take a look at my web site and provide your feedback. If you own a web site , feel free to register a new ID from my site.

Thanks a lot,

Raju Mariappan.

Edgar,

DNS is protocol may not be complex for a web developer. I agree. But, the URL structure could have been much simpler. Every one agrees. Why, my grandma need to understand the terms like http : // . . . / in it. Why not  typing "NEW EVOLUTION" doesn't take my to your web stie http://www.nuevolution.net/

Second, may web site owners really don't need to have formal DNS name and they are paying around 30$ to maintain a domain name. They could register with FREE web server based DNS servers like me.

Third, supporting  internationalization( i. mean. different world languages) of DNS is not that easy.   some asian country grandpa/grandma still need to type

http://www.herlanguageword.com/

Most of all, I am providing it for FREEEEEEEE.

If you are statisfied with my answer, please go and register a simple domain name for your web site with me.

I generally won't critique a web site where the business plan seems to make no sense, to me.

Your site is well laid out, easy to navigate and understand.  From a design point of view, I really like it.

But, as Nuevolution puts it, I don't get it.  You haven't had to type www or http:// or .com for most websites in at least the major browsers for quite a few years.

Type "google" in the address bar and hit CTRL-Return, and the browser will add the "http://www." and ".com" to the word "Google" for you.

Type "google.com" and hit return, and Firefox and IEwill add the "http://www." for you.

Steve ,thanks a lot for your feedback.

The Reason Behind Duke Walk

According to Verisign's Domain Names 2008 statistics ,the world has around 300 million registered DNS web sites. And many of the registered domain's soley purpose is for web site navigation. 90 % of these registered web sites don't need complex things supported by DNS protocol like email, sub domain organization, etc. But average every one is paying around 30$/year to maintain a web site.  I do pay 30$ to maintain my web site. Why not make it free?  Why not make domain registration free like web mails, free web photo upload?  With the current DNS technology it may not be easy. I am trying to provide solutions based on web server technology. I hope I can maintain this server with simple ad. revenue. What do you think?

Like I said, the website is well designed - from a website design point of view.  But, from a business concept, and the accompanying SEO, I just don't get it.  Perhaps that is a failing of your website in that I don't understand what service that you are offering that is any better than what the browsers already offer.

hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participants. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical (binary) identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices worldwide. An often used analogy to explain the Domain Name System is that it serves as the "phone book" for the Internet by translating human-friendly computer hostnames into IP addresses. For example, www.example.com translates to 208.77.188.166.

The Domain Name System makes it possible to assign domain names to groups of Internet users in a meaningful way, independent of each user's physical location. Because of this, World Wide Web (WWW) hyperlinks and Internet contact information can remain consistent and constant even if the current Internet routing arrangements change or the participant uses a mobile device. Internet domain names are easier to remember than IP addresses such as 208.77.188.166 (IPv4) or 2001:db8:1f70::999:de8:7648:6e8 (IPv6). People take advantage of this when they recite meaningful URLs and e-mail addresses without having to know how the machine will actually locate them.

The Domain Name System distributes the responsibility of assigning domain names and mapping those names to IP addresses by designating authoritative name servers for each domain. Authoritative name servers are assigned to be responsible for their particular domains, and in turn can assign other authoritative name servers for their sub-domains. This mechanism has made the DNS distributed, fault tolerant, and helped avoid the need for a single central register to be continually consulted and updated.

In general, the Domain Name System also stores other types of information, such as the list of mail servers that accept email for a given Internet domain. By providing a worldwide, distributed keyword-based redirection service, the Domain Name System is an essential component of the functionality of the Internet.

Other identifiers such as RFID tags, UPC codes, International characters in email addresses and host names, and a variety of other identifiers could all potentially utilize DNS.[1]

The Domain Name System also defines the technical underpinnings of the functionality of this database service. For this purpose it defines the DNS protocol, a detailed specification of the data structures and communication exchanges used in DNS, as part of the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP).
