Okay, so as my fellow StartupNation team members can attest to, I may have accidentally almost set StartupNation world headquarters on fire today at lunch.  Due to an unfortunate, lifelong mental block when it comes to math, I inadvertently doubled the cooking time on my lean cuisine instead of halving it (don`t ask why math came into the picture to begin with) and when I went back to check on it, thick smoke was billowing from the microwave in our kitchen.

Not sure what to do, and convinced that the whole microwave was gonna blow any second, I called upon two other team members to come in and rescue me from the eggroll blaze I was sure I had created.  Luckily, no flames, but boy does it stink in here now and you could literally SEE the smoke throughout the office.  My eyes are burning.  You know it`s bad when the people from the office upstairs come down to ask if everything is okay, and you can barely stand the stench of being in the car with yourself while driving to Panera to get a replacement lunch.

So, while I really wasn`t trying to pull a Milton from Office Space and burn the place to the ground, I`m sure I`m not exactly popular around here this afternoon.

So somebody out there please share - ever done anything similar?  Got any funny stories that will keep my teammates entertained this afternoon while their eyes are burning?

So you`re the culprit!!

I was innocently doing a community podcast in my office with the door closed when I heard quite a commotion going on through the hallways. When I emerged I was overcome with burnt "something" stench, but I was feeling too polite to ask who done it.

I`m opening my window to let in the 20 degree chill. And I`m gonna insist on a walk to get a smoothie soon to clear out my lungs.

Ah, the life of entrepreneurs at StartupNation ...

Aha... so that was the stink! At least it spurred an interesting little side conversation on the topic of over-microwaving stuff....

Yes, the podcast I was doing was with Christina!! She smelled it all the way from Indiana!

(tune in tomorrow to hear the super-cool community podcast - we`ll have it up on the site then)

LOL... now that would be some crazy stench, to be able to travel that far :-)
Thanks again, Joel, for having me on.

Christina - Gus (the pup in the pic) thanks you for the compliment. His good looks definitely go a long way towards making the fact that he and his brother run my household a little more bearable. :)

That happened to me with a bag of popcorn!  Unfortunately, it was at home and the smoke alarm went off.  Our smoke alarm is tied to our security system.  I couldn`t remember the code to turn it off, so the fire department called!  I had to tell them it was a false alarm.  All that for some Orville Reddenbacher.

Well Jessica, as I sit here practically choking I am reminded that you brought me a sandwich back from your run to Panera, so I can`t complain too much.  But I really want to.

I didn`t get the office on fire or anything like that, but I did had lots of cops over at one time.

We`d just moved to a new office in East Bay and as we were all getting used to the new phone system, no one told me I did not have to dial 9 to send a fax. God knows how it happened but somehow as I was trying to send an important fax to Asia, it went to 911. And of course the dispatcher could not hear a thing from this end so they ended up sending quite a few cops over.  They, the cops, seemed so excited as if they haven`t had any excitment in such a boring town for so long.  They ended up staying for coffee and donuts (now I didn`t mean to be funny but we just happened to have lots of donuts on that day)

At least they didn`t charge us 500 buck for false alarm.  Fire department charged us 500 dollars for false alarm once.

Oh yeah, I did blew up an egg in the microwave once, at the office kitchen, too... a lot of cleaning up to do afterwards ... maybe that`s why I am one of the very few people not having a microwave at home.
