Thanks for this post. I've been trying to decide whether I should build a FB Page or a FB Group for Project Swole. Think I'm going to finally decide on making a Page for now.

I just set up a Facebook page for our business, but I don't see how to properly link to it from our web site.  The New York Times is just "www.facebook.com/newyorktimes", but that syntax doesn't work for our page...ours has a long, ugly number at the end.

For many companies a Facebook page is good PR and helps your customers connect with you and your employees (building customer loyalty), but may not directly influence sales in the short term.  Once the page is more established, it will help build credibility - which can certainly lead to increased sales.

Hello Media Turbo,

I am with you on your comment about PR. It appears that a business must have a Facebook page for PR reasons. It also helps with link building too. As for Facebook Ads, my jury is still out on that one,

Nobody answered that prior post about why they do not have a page entitled facebook.com/mybusiness. Is it that you need to have 100 fans or not?

I've actually done some research on this and I'm a little confused by it too, but here's what I've gathered. You can have a custom URL for a personal Facebook account but they have yet to allow for custom URLs for Facebook businesses (obviously some companies have them but not every company can create a custom URL for their business.) I do imagine at some point over the next few months Facebook will allow all fan pages to have custom URLs. I have also heard of companies forwarding links to their Facebook accounts like (*www.yourcompany.com/facebook would forward to your Facebook page -- this actually creates the appearance that you have a custom URL for your page*)

Hope this helps!

You can create a business fan page without connecting it to a personal account. Make sure you are logged out of facebook when you do this -Just goto http://www.facebook.com and click on the "create a page for a celebrity, band or business link" and follow the directions from there.

Custom facebook URLs:

Go to http://www.facebook.com/username/ -- & click on "Set a username for your Pages". You are required to have 25 "fans" (which was changed to "Likes" less than a week ago) to do that.

We create Facebook business pages for all of our niche sites/services.  If setup properly, they get indexed by Google too.  The connections we make through our Facebook pages are great.

Service FaceItPages.com is a DIY Facebook page creator that allows you to easily create a nice Facebook business page.

Hi,

Thanks for the info on setting up a business account.  I do not see a Become A Fan button.  All I see is a Like button.

Is Like a replacement for Become a Fan?

Thanks.
