I am establishing a business phone line with a 800 # for a start-up company.  Vonage is about 50% less per month with many more features, like unlimited local and long distance calling to anywhere in the US, Canada and parts of Europe.

Since Vonage has only been around since 2003, I am wondering who on here uses Vonage and if they are satisifed with their service.

I assume that if I go with them and decide to change later if not happy, that I can take my 800 # with me.  This is my real concern.  I guess portability applies to all numbers?

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

They also use your existing broadband service.   They provide you with their equipment that you install in-line after your router and before your pc.  Has anyone had any problems with this as far as internet speed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

We have been using Skype for long-distance calls and it really works quite well. I haven`t used Vonage, so unfortunately I don`t have a basis for comparing the two.

DRVAG,
I am a Vonage Customers, and yes its a good idea to have if you`re just starting out your business. Although, its a good service, some of the things that I`ve encountered problems with is the FAX. You can`t send out but you can recieve faxes.
My suggestion to you is: Get the $24.99 package and add an 800 number to your service, forget about the FAX for now.

If you`re a home business use your land-line for the FAX machine.
You will pay about $32.00 dollars a month with the 800 number.
It is worth having until you grow and have to move to a bigger service which I am getting ready to do. For advanced services you can go with PACKET 8.
This will be your next move if you want to transfer your VOIP number and 1-800.
Another feature that Vonage allows you to do is forward all your calls to your cell phone if you`re on the road. I use this feature alot when Im away.
The unlimited calls in 50 states and Canada are Cool...

Hey all, thanks for the responses.  After talking with a few others and then did as someone suggested, checked them out with the BBB.

I was suprised at all the complaints they have had which also caused the BBB to revoke their membership.

Thought I would share it for what it`s worth in case someone else was considering.  Although I`m sure they have many other satisfied customers, I have decided to use my local carrier.

Thanks again.

You obviously have not been following the patent right infringement case filed against Vonage.   They were ordered to cease use of technology they pirated from another company.  Vonage is trying to develop its own technology, but may have to shut down before that happens.

Vonage also requires internet access.  This means you pay an additional fee on top of your Vonage bill.

Well now I`m really glad I didn`t use them.  Thanks for the comment.  I`m sure others will appreciate the heads up if they`re thinking about Vonage.
