My website is PunditPolitics.com

The concept is to promote factual discussion of hot political issues - i.e. focus on the facts of the issues rather than the positions of individuals. Our objective is promote a more informed general public, which we attempt to do through our various `Political IQ` knowledge tests, statistics, and our blog commentary (which has only just gotten underway).

When visitors arrive at the site they really do seem to enjoy the testing etc, often taking multiple tests, but the path to public exposure seems daunting. I know sites like politicalcompass.org have had millions of tests taken and I feel like my product is similarly interesting and could be successful, but I`m really new to SEO and I`m not sure how to best spend my time at it. Should I focus on getting blogroll links primarily or is it better to make sure my keywords are maximally optimized?

Is hiring an expert worthwhile?

Your site is really cool. I was working on a political blog a little over a year ago and we had a lot of success reaching upwards of 300k uniques per month. Wha we did was A LOT, and I mean A LOT of social bookmarking as well as micro-blogging.

I think these 2 elements would be great for you since you have so much data that people would be interested. Also there is a lot of potential to get press for your site through traditional media. There are a lot of environmental groups that would to say that 2/3s of people don`t know how much CO2 stays in the atmosphere.

I do some consulting work in the SEO / Marketing field and would be interested in helping you out.

Your keywords/meta stuff seems solid, it`s just such a competitive field (politics) that you need to have so many outside links pointing back in constantly. Get involved with the social bookmarking sites and sites like hubpages that will increase your rank and provide quality traffic.

Thanks for the insight. I feel the same way, but its good to hear it from an outside source even if perhaps angling for a job.
