Can someone explain to me how sales tax works when you have an online shop? My particular state has no sales tax, but how do I determine how much to charge (if at all) for those purchasing from anothe state?

You should consultat a tax professional but if you are shipping out of state, you do not charge sales tax. This is a great benefit to buying on-line.

Here`s a good article I found on this very subject - How to Determine Your Sales Tax Charges

Apparently it also comes down to where your merchant account provider is located - so you would have to charge for some states, but not others.

Some are looking to change that soon so that all is taxed on the net. Thoughts?

Can anyone confirm (or deny) the bit about paying sales tax on merchandise sold to customers in the same state as your merchant account provider (from the gowholesale.com article above)?  I`ve read it in a couple of obscure places, but usually do not find anything about it when searching.

After posting the question above, I spoke with my merchant account rep who says, and I am very loosely paraphrasing and I may not have it exactly right, that this only applies to third party accounts--people who are not running credit cards in their business name (usually those that are high risk accounts).
